Default E2 GTS Carsguide review

http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/new..._e2_gts_review

Quote from the article:
"Lined up against its rivals the GTS is an easy winner over anything from Ford Performance Vehicles, even the turbo I personally prefer over the V8 GT, and is a bargain against the class benchmark from Mercedes-Benz. It is also a car that looks like becoming an instant benchmark for Aussie muscle."

Sounds like we have a new favourite Aussie muscle-car. While certainly not quicker than the F6 (0-100 took more than 5 seconds), I think the character of the car must've made quite an impression. I think this would be a fantastic car to drive, and commend HSV for doing a great job. My personal preference, though, is towards a subtle performance car: I'm not really an attention seeker, and the E2 GTS would only suit someone who is. Arguably most people are attention seekers, so they should sell well.

i'll say it again... there's far more to a performance vehicle that 0-100 and 1/4 mile times.......
We need to stop focusing on these 2 numbers as the sole measure of their worth.

Your not wrong but they are figures in which are relative easy to compare with others, and in Oz you could safely say the majority of the buyers are concerned with numbers and letters.

I did read that article and couldn't believe it. Im sure its good but a F6 will still eat it for breakfast.

And it looks like a hat full of a-holes.

very true

it is more than the times it's the comfort refinement and more importantly the safety of the car

Surely if they are your priorities then a G6ET is better suited to the buyer. Quicker than a GT aswell. If you were serious about refinement then a Ford mightn't be on the shopping list anyway.

These cars are all about numbers, badges and bragging rights.

what a crock of meecrab!! The F6 eat's it for breakfast and to a lesser extent even the Ford G6ET demolishes it. Roy here at SF did a 13.4 in the G6ET they had for the weekend and it was bog stock!

What a horridly, obviously biased article..

I agree. And performance cars don't need to look tacky with big wings and plasticky bodykits. That look died a long time ago.

Give it 6 months and fully VN onwards Commodores will be sporting extra badges. But I don't think there will be any badges saying "I cut my springs to make it fully low".

We've seen the numbers they all produce.

We dont need a back to back 3 car article about them - there wont be any difference in each car.

From the article:

Engine: 6.2-litre Gen III V8... Gen III aye?

While I don't doubt the GTS is the new performance benchmark, I'd rather read something that hasn't been written by that pinhead Paul Gover.

I'm sure it's a great car to drive and it would go hard but that would have to be the ugliest car on the market.
I will admit to be fairly biased but I don't see how that is so much better than the GTE or F6E as he claims. Other then a tacky body kit and 20's.

Whether you want to believe it or not, the GTS would own anything from Ford OZ on a track.

I seen one (GTS 325 with the yellow "fully sick" badge on the back) in the watergardens shopping centre car park a few days ago, I tried to get a park close to it to get a better look to no avail.
But I must say the back end didn't look as bad as the pictures I've seen and the new rims do suit it, unfortunatly I didn't get a good look at the "snow plough" front end.
In my opinon the Senator is the only looker of the bunch and if I had that kind of cash I would spend it some where better than Holden.

GTS has better brakes, suspension and tyres.
Only thing the F6 has on its side is the flatter torque curve.

The car I bet is a clinker to drive, but to pay that much for an SS interior for me is unacceptable.

VAlue is important and I expect an HSV to have a far superior interior to most other offerings.

Uranium, I agree that HSV need a much better interior than the SS, but the same can be said with FPV. These premium cars get mid range interiors with different stitching and a few different plastic colours... but alas Im off topic.

Be interesting to see what other mags/motoring sites say about the E2. Especially CarAdvice.

R8 isnt the same as the GTS

But Flappist just posted this in another thread

Quote:
MOTOR Magazine April 2006 PCOTY Page 68

Winton lap time:

F6 1:44.60
XR6T manual 1:44.95 (T56)
XR6T auto 1:45.90 (ZF)
GT 1:46.05
The VE GTS at that time did it in 1:43.71
And this video of Garth Tander taking a VE2 GTS around Winton looks to be about a 1:40. Unfortunately there is no actual timer though. (it looks like it crosses the line at :08 and again at 1:48
