Hey guys was wondering if anybody knows if this camera is currently active? Its a stupid area where the speed goes from 100 to 80 to 90 to 100 then back to 80. not sure how fast i was going but did not see it until my return trip.

Cheers

A friend was saying he saw on the news it was active as of yesterday with a 1km margin of error.
Is it going to get warning signs and white markings across the road like current fixed cameras or will this one be unmarked like a third of the mobile ones?

Not sure if they are maybe just for monitoring but there's cameras on tall poles popping up along the Centenary freeway too for anyone traveling along there. Maybe set up for future point to point speed?

taken from
http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/Home..._speed_cameras
so no they arnt in operation as yet.

Digital speed cameras are very similar to existing speed and red light cameras. Digital cameras use digital imaging technology and can use different detection technologies such as in-road sensors, not just radar. Digital cameras will allow new enforcement techniques such as point-to-point enforcement and combined red light/speed cameras to be introduced to Queensland in mid-2010

This will answer all your questions, not some CM beatup.

*I am not supportive of these camera's and would prefer to see them die, however some reporters need to get their facts straight*

in summary.

Quote:
How many cameras are being tested? Where will they be tested?
Seven cameras will be tested in locations across South East Queensland. These will be:
 two combined red light/speed cameras
 Waterworks Road and Jubilee Terrace, Ashgrove
 Beaudesert Road and Compton Road, Calamvale
 three spot-fixed speed cameras
 Pacific Motorway, Loganholme
 Gateway Arterial Road, Nudgee
 Clem7 Tunnel, Woolloongabba to Bowen Hills
 one point-to-point speed camera system
 Bruce Highway, Caloundra Road to Wild Horse Mountain, Beerburrum
 one mobile speed camera (used at varying locations).
The seven cameras will be tested from November 2009 until mid-2010. Testing will make sure the new technology
works properly to accurately measure and capture offending vehicles.
It is not just the cameras that are being tested but a new infringement processing system as well. Testing will ensure
that the new cameras are compatible with this system.

You will tell the road sensor speed cameras by weeing a few grooved lines in the form of rectangles sitting where the speed camera is facing, You can usually tell they are there, as the ashpalt will be newer as they have to dig it up again to put them in. Once your past the sensors, your all clear.

I predict this camera will be a nice little earner for them. As pointed out by Brendan, the speed limit changes a number of times in a short area. The speeds were lowered due to engineering deficiencies in the road that were due to a cheapskate design. Government wins both ways; saves money on the road, collects money on the infringements. Motorists loose both ways; exposed to higher risk due to shoddy design, back pocket exposed to revenue collection.

Another cheapskate camera installation that has appeared of late is the cameras covering the railway crossing at Bracken Ridge. The government has been taking of installing a flyover for the last 30 years. Instead, the flyover is caught up in committee land and two camera are sent out to capture the damage – after it happens.

Just another BEEP BEEP to add to the GPS...

Good luck with the 1 km margin.. Most cars are out 2 - 3 kms from factory, at worse 5 kms.. If they think they are going to get away with 1 km margins they are going to hear about it.

As for voting any other way if we had a real government that wasnt worried about keeping votes we woulda had these things 5 years ago like every other state. Beattie / Bligh have been holding off as long as they can to save votes!

Yes... that will be the next thing... all GPS's will need to be registered and all new cars fitted with them....
Then they will remove speed camera's all together and just "invoice" you if you EVER go over.....
