It did, I am guessing it still does.

SA still got a few of those? I remember going to my grandparents in Goolwa as a kid, the one at ?Tailem bend? (before the big bridge was built) and the one to Hindmarsh Island. Good times.

Thanks guys, turns out they are 24 hours. Quite strange that they would be hiring people around the clock to run a free ferry.

After hours you have to ring the little doorbell and wake him up - if he's on the wrong side he comes over and gets you.
Hmm....... a Government service that's free?? What are they thinking

Dont talk too loudly if they get wind of this they will start charging. yes they all run 24hours and are free, Its bascially just a road. Roads are free and are open 24 hours a day also.
Surely it would have been cheaper an easier to build a bridge once you consider the cost of running the dam things 24/7. But saying that, I do like them! |

sitting astride my trusty chook chaser taking in the serenity of Mr Murray River.... THUNK!!!!! some numb nut Mr no handbrake no idea behind me decides to roll forwards and nearly push me and my trusty chooky through the gates and into Mr Murray River...... *swear words* and *clean undies* moment........... |

the ferry does operate 24 hours a day, ocassionally though it isnt opertational. ive never been unlucky enough to get caught there though.
