Hi all
diff oil is on the list and if you believe the marketing everybody makes the best one. After some advice on what people have used, I am looking mainly at: Castrol SAF-XA 80w-140 Royal Purple Max Diff Oil 75w90 Penrite SIN80 80w-140 All are synthetic and I have all of them on the shelf at work hence narrowing it down a bit. Thanks for any info/opinions.

both myself and my brother have used the Castrol SAF-XA 80w-140 oil, my car a series 2 au ghia with a 3.45 lsd diff, my brothers a ba xr6 turbo running a 3.46 lsd diff. Can't say it's the best but neither of us have had any problems. As a matter of fact I'm about due for a diff oil change myself, I'll be buying some more saf-xa for my diff, unless more than a few people around here would recommend something else.

I've used the Nulon LSD 80w-140 Full synthetic.
It was the cheapest available at the time. I've heard Nulon is good stuff. Cheers Jason

I'd go the Nulon (and have used it in the past) - pretty sure it's the only product that doesn't need the LSD additive; everything else I think you need to use something like Penrite Limslip additive 7098.

Castrol SAF-XA does not need the additive from what i remember.
Have used the SAF-XA without issues.

When I investigated this a while ago for my Futura, I read many good things about the Penrite SIN80. Then my mechanic informed me it was a bit over the top and assured me my diff would be just fine with some 75w-90 stuff.......haven't had any issues.
But I was close to grabbing the SIN80. IIRC there was some discussion about diff oils in the Mainlube sponsor forum section....

The SIN80 is pretty cheap for me so I am leaning towards that. Its an easy job to do the oil change so I might grab some thru the week and do it next weekend.

i've put both the nulon and the penrite synthetics in my diff, no probs so far.

I use the Penrite with the additive. Eliminated the chatter, no hassles since.
It's what you should be using IMO

Interesting that no one here used the Genuine ford oil & additive,
i don't blame anyone thought its prohibitively expensive!

i used to use the recomended ford stuff but the lsd is no longer functional, so i just use any old cheap stuff.

I guess the next question has to be ......
What's a diff worth??? Allot more the 2 litres of diff oil......even Mainlube. I have many customers who's usage is so tuff their diff fails if Mainlube's not used, guess they don't have a problem with the cost. Only one yard stick for quality and that's price. What's a diff worth?? (no additive needed with Mainlube, it's a real LSD oil) 75w90 is too light for a diff, it's a gearbox oil. Cheers Steve

I just added Penrite Limslip 140 to my Diff
I could have added Penrite LimSlip 90 but went 140 instead I have a whine in my diff and was just seeing if that would quiten it - it didnt lol Looked at the spec sheet and it said this:- (looks like 3 times thicker at 40 Degrees and 2 times thicked at 100 Degrees) - i think i will put LimSlip 90 back in but what MainLube product should i use and what is its cost Its a daily driver with a few drag meetings which include Burnouts First Numbers are LimSlip 90, then LimSlip 85W-140 then Limslip 140 Density at 40oC 0.901 - 0.912 - 0.914 Viscosity, Kinematic, cSt at 40oC 148 - 371 - 455 at 100oC 15.2 - 27.2 - 30.7 Viscosity Index 103 - 98 - 96 Viscosity, Brookfield, cSt at-26oC 136,000 - NA - NA Viscosity, Brookfield, cSt at-12oC NA - 52,900 - NA Colour Blue - Blue - Blue Phosphorus, mass % 0.099 - 0.099 - 0.099 Penrite Brochure here http://www.penriteoil.com.au/pis_pdf...JAN%202010.pdf
