Hi guys,
I saw in one of my car magazines a little while ago an add for a replacement fuel filler cap that allows you to fill up without removing the cap. It has a little spring loaded flap or something built into it. I was thinking of maybe trying one out, but for the life of me can't find the ad or remember the name of the product?? Does anyone know what its called or had experience with it? Good or bad? Cheers.

Why???
What is wrong with the caps that come with the car??? They seem to work fine!! It surly is not that difficult to remove and replace the filler when filling the car |

Why not? If they work they would save having to remove it each fill and save leaving it on the bowser every other fill. |

I actually think its not a bad idea. Means you dont have to handle the cap which means no petrol smell on your hands.
That youtube link is for a Ford option available in the US. The one I saw was a locally available aftermarket item that simply just replaces the standard filler cap.

How would such a device work with emissions and compliance with ADR's?
Just thinking aloud. |

actually, may make it more compliant as the flap on the cap closes straight away as the nozzle is removed, allowing less gases to escape.

Fiesta comes standard with this capless refilling thing, it just has this flap which the pump goes into, wont let you stick a hose in there, you need this adaptor to use a jerry can with it.

The Mondeo I had while they serviced my territory had something like this.
Worked ok, I wouldn't complain about having it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get one either - it's not a tough and dirty job to unscrew the cap... |

I don't have a problem with a smelly cap. I have a problem with keeping the cap on the G6 filler door instead of hanging by its cord on the duco. I'll work out how to remove it one day.
Capless is tempting. |

Has anybody thought this maybe a way to minimise the fumes coming out when refilling.
If so I would love one as i am sick of smelling fumes when i fill up. These fume are carciogenic and there has been talk in the past of trying to minimise fumes escaping for health and enviromental benefits. To the op is the nozzle a snug fit ? |

the other question is how well does this 'cap' seal? I have noticed on my cars that there is actually pressure in the tank (I am guessing from fuel vapour expanding in the heat of the day).
What is to stop a nearby open flame from igniting the vapour? At least i know that the traditional cap has sealed properly |

I've trawled the interweb and can't find any trace of this cap.
Makes me wonder that it perhaps didn't comply with ADR requirements in regards to sealing the fuel system and/or safety and was pulled from sale in Australia. If I ever find the ad in the magazine, i'll scan it and post it up. It did seem like a pretty good product... It came in different types to suit the different nozzle sizes for leaded, unleaded and diesel.
