Doing some rust repairs on the rear screen of my xd sedan.
What thickness sheet steel should i get to make the repairs? Im guessing something thats thin enough to be able to shape it but thats about as far as my knowledge goes. I have never done rust repairs before and would appreciate some advice from those that have done it before. Cheers for any help |

Yea I think one panel was .8 mm ..
I was surprised how easy it was to weld tap new patch into place and weld.. Bending while still hot made tinkering so much easier.. Found cutting back to GOOD metal was far easier than trying to weld rust or bog... I would have the guys balls if I could my hands on him for the bodgy repairs.. $650 for rust !!! Even replaced the whole lower section 150mm along each door..

Yeah dodgy repairs are harder to fix like im finding out now, someones had the screen out before and done brass and bog repairs previously
Im doing what you said, chop the rust out completely, make the cuts nice and square and just weld the new piece in I have to wait 2 weeks or so for the panel to come in but ill keep the thread updated. Give me time to fit the balljoints and new suspension stuff while its off the road. |

Heres an update, after i spoke to rare spares and they told me the rust panel was available and i just had to come in and pay for it before they ordered it.
I got a guy out to remove the screen and ordered a $700 mig welder,i go there to order the panel and he tells me they dont do it anymore! No apolagies or anything, what a dick. So brent from rex spares in perth isnt the man to see about rare parts at all Might have to sell the xd now because the repairs are out of my league |
