Red face The real first 4 cylinder falcon!!!!

Was just flipping around on ebay and came across an XE Falcon with a difference.

guy at my work had a diesel fitted to his falcon, in place of the original V8...

basically, he needed an economical car, and it was cheaper to put that engine in it and run it, than it was to put the car on LPG...

diesel converted falcon were quite common back home in the 90s, with diesel being around 50c a litre cheaper, and cheap jap import parts available easily it was a popular conversion.

ld28's were one of the more common conversions in to xd/e's, and a good well set up turbo diesel absolutely decimates a stock crossy lol, while costing half as much to run.

I also recall the celica gearbox is a pretty tough gear box.

Got to say that I remember at about that time I caught an XD taxi and the driver told me that it had been fitted with the 4 cyl diesel motor, cool but a bit of a slug if I remember.

correct, been fitted behind many 6s/8s and turbos quite happily.

I'd say that the owner felt that diesel was the way to go when they started phasing out leaded fuel. Good idea well ahead of it's time. Motor would outlive the vehicle.

i have heard and seen a few diesel falcons around in the `80s. mostly XDs.

Thats a 4.236 and in normally aspirated like it is it would be an absolute slug .
