Arrow Economical Car For Ten Grand Max For The Missus(commodore Stolen)

Howdy guys.Hope you had a fullfilling day in some shape or form.
The day is now over for me so on to looking for a new car.the other halfs car was stolen last month and we now finally have the means to look for a new car.She wants something economical to run but still has some punch so to speak. She is open to alot of cars which makes choosing even harder. This is a shott list of cars that are so far to her liking from what i can gather.Test driving a car atm is hard for her so my gut feeling is going to be deployed somewhat.I want to suprise her with the car also.

Nissan Tiida
Volkswagon Golf MY04
Toyota Corolla
Falcon or Commodore on gas and petrol
2004 VRX Magna or Lancer
Aurion(prob out of range)
Nissan Pulsar
Basically something that gets 100kms for every ten dollars or better around suburbia. All other suggestions appreciated. No V8's,turbos or anything thats under 1.6ltrs lol.

Interstate is an option if you know of any cars personally that would fit the bill.Thankyou people:-)

Still havent heard what even happen to the vx or if it was even found

My first thought was a Toyota Corolla, very cheap and reliable, second Nissan Tiida and third Nissan Pulsar, but the Tiida is the updated pulsar.

You'll struggle to get a Maga under 10lt per hundred so cross that off the list. Aurions will do around 9.5 per hundred but out of the budget. VW's are dynamite on parts, so I'd give that a miss also.
Don't touch any of the holdens that are Euro built, see above.
BTW, looks as though you are trying to tick too many boxes. Look at Lancers as a good alternative or N16 Pulsars maybe an Elantra?

Yep,steering clear of what you mentioned.Thankyou for advice:-)

We have had a four speed ts magna before that returned mid tens and was quicker than the same year Ford or Holden. If we found one on gas then theirs even more economy.

As for the boxes im trying to tick(punchy for engine type/class,good economy and four or five doors)how is that asking to much.

I think i should have used a diffetent word to punch.how about punches well in its weight class lol:-)

The only thing i dont like about the lancers and magnas is the thin paint. Here is a list of her last cars to help with suggestions and some of her taste in cars.
Supercharged vx
2004 Magna
2004 mk11 ba futura wagon
2000 2.0 Mivec conversion Lancer
R31 Skyline
1991 Barina
1986 Laser

VW Golf is ultra reliable and its not difficult getting parts from europe. and the vr6 was very good for its time and you'd definitely find one for less then 10k

You would get a decent Mazda 3 hatch 2005 for under 10k, I enjoyed driving my sisters mazda 3 more then my in laws 2009 corolla hatch, and it was good on fuel (most cars are compared to my xr8)

Im leaning towards a Tiida,Corolla or dual fuel Ba Fairmont.

Some quick somes tells me a dual fuel large sedan is capeable of being as cheap or cheaper to run.

If the Clio Sport came in four door that would be her ultimate car, what are the Meganes luke.I know looks are subjective to some but they seem to be a good bit of gear.

Im pretty sure the cheaper model/manufacturers wont really appeal to her. What ever car it is also needs to be a non entry level spec version.Would like to get something thats all colour coded, elec windows front and rear, alloys etc.

The car that was stolen was a vx s pack s/c with some nice individual mods done to it for her.

Only way you will get the running cost you look for is go lpg , even a falcon will manage that , even a 6k Bmw would burn around 8>9 litres per 100 in a 318i

In what way exactly excluding styling?Their 4cyl is quite good imo from the drives i had of one when working for a used Mitsibishi yard. The room inside the cabbin is generous all round.

Styling, and what they are like to drive. Totally lost its soul and became nothing more than a boring Corolla white goods on wheels copy.

Its really no suprise sales only even got to a fraction of Pulsar sales.

Shop around but you should be able to get a BF XT E-gas for around $10,000,
they're fairly late model and cheap as a four cylinder to run....my two cents.

Merry Christmas

I asked for reasons other than styling bloke.I have driven one and without being a nitpicker it was a good drive imo.

Its funny, you blew up once before with my styling comment on the new fg yet you slag of other cars.....

What about a Mazda 6? My Brothers owned an 04 since new and never had a problem with it? $10k would get you an early low km example. Great to drive, very ecconomical, very responsive, still modern shape, reliable and heaps of room inside, and not just for a legless dwarf in the backseat either. Great raspy exhaust note in stock form. Sedan/Hatch/Wagon available also?

Your sums are right. A large 6cyl car on LPG will be cheaper than a small petrol buzz box.
My wife and I have had this experience and left the petrol car at home. The cars we had were my EL Falcon and a 2001 Corolla. It was cheaper for my wife to take the Falcon to work each day than the Corolla.
We now have a turbo diesel 4cyl and the EL, and they are about the same price on a cents per kilometre cost. LPG probably wins out by a very slim margin.

I'd go an AUII-III wagon on LPG if you want the space. It's cheaper to run and maintain than a B series or 4 pot buzz boxand more reliable and a whole lot cheaper to buy. For the sort of money you have to spend you could pick up a very nice low k Fairmont wagon or sedan and still have enough left over for a bit of bling and/or tunes if you're into the doof doof. Personally I reacon the factory premo sound is more than enough for mums taxi though............... but I may be biased

Bushbasher

Here's a couple to give you an idea of what you can get.
sedan
wagon

The wagon doesn't have gas but for the price you could have gas fitted for less than a grand after rebate. And don't worry about the kms cos these things go forever if theyre looked after. Talk to any taxi driver/owner.
