Is my accellerator pedal sinking???

So I will admit that I've been driving my other three cars plus some work cars a bit more than my old falc lately

And getting back into the falcon, the brake pedal is spot on but the accellerator pedal seems to be rather sunken. Now I know that the go pedal on the falcons has never been on the same plane as the woah pedal, but i have a sneaking suspicion that mine is far more sunken that it ordinarily would or should be. I will admit that I am a throttle jockey and i really do mash the accellerator quite a lot.

I'd like to think I've heard of every fault that can happen to an AU, and this isn't one I'm familiar with. Any ideas? Anyone had this before?

Stretched throttle cable?

wouldn't a stretched throttle cable make the pedal less taught and therefore less sunken? (i'm assuming?)

Stretched cable = throttle pedal sits closer to the floor...

When you remove the cable from the throttle body, and press on the accellerstor pedal, it shouldn't return from the floor, so I'm assuming when it's a stretched cable, the throttle pedal will return, but not all the way and not have all original travel like a new cable would.

I hope that makes sense... Typing it on this iPhone sucks.....

Ah ok. Well, I think it might be new throttle cable time for me!
Cos i even went so far as to wonder if my carpet was shrinking on me - and i've really, really gotta press down very very hard to see it redline...

I would get some one to hold their foot flat to the floor and see if is get full throttle first but does sound like it has stretched

Hey Whoosh, it's an I6, so just take the intake piping off, put the foot flat to the floor yourself and look at the T/B :P

well i just went and had a look at it and when i depress the accellerator fully to the metal stop, i can still pull the cable with my fingers by almost a centimetre. so yeah, must be one rather stretched cable it seems. I suppose i could always add a couple of washers to the cable and the accellerator!!!

there should be a slack adjuster with lock nut.

Well there's the problem to start with ! it"s missing 2 cylnders

And what Burnz said doesn't in have a adjuster nut at the throttle end

so i've sussed the problem.

I had a look for any adjuster nuts and the only adjustment i can see is the idle screw. at the TB end the cable just comes to a little metal barrel, like a bike handbrake cable.

i checked out another AU and i found I am missing a part. between the end of the accellerator cable (cabin end) and the top where it attaches to the pedal, there should be a fat rubber washer, about 15mm in length and diameter. Mine is missing this. So that would probably explain my problem.

I 100% believe this is a problem caused by my driving style.
