I don't think a lot of people now remember what a big deal the VL was at the time...it had that long sloping nose, the little kick up at the rear, and that engine! It was light years ahead of the last "black" 3.3 Holden six, even the one with EFI like was fitted to a VK Calais we owned. People just weren't prepared for it.

Back to that VK...it looks fantastic! Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't those wheels look too big a diameter for the era? I thought they raced on 15's or 16's back then...?
Interesting to note that this was a car that was dynamically good enough to have won the premier racing event in Australia, and that there are Hyundais and Honda Civics running around the streets now with bigger spoiler kits, rear wings and wheels on them...for some reason...

First time I saw a Walkinshaw, I thought it had a mini hot tub/spa on the boot.

You are on the drugs my dearest brother. The VL was good for it's day especially against what Ford had to offer but in standard form it was under braked, too softly sprung, and suffered from way too much roll oversteer. Which was good for reducing the intial understeer but a little trickier to control. Even for those not related to Mr Merrick
