HSV Maloo breaks UK record
By Carsguide team Carsguide 12 November 2012 An Australian-made Holden Special Vehicles Maloo ute has broken a record in Britain. The HSV Maloo, sold in the UK as the Vauxhall VXR pick-up, now holds the record for the fastest light commercial vehicle on a Worcestershire hill climb track called Shelsley Walsh (try saying that after a few beers). Somewhat appropriately, it was ex-pat Australian Steve Cropley, who is Autocar magazine’s editor-in-chief, who drove the brutish ute. “The plan was not just to set an LCV record time at Shelsley, but make it respectable enough to stick for a while,” Cropley says. “Despite the track being dampish, and littered with wildlife that thought the hillclimb season had ended, we managed a 38.65 second run. The Maloo’s huge torque, decent launch control and easy handling made the whole experience less of a chore than it should have been, too. http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and...eaks_uk_record

I wonder if they'd ever tried taking that Ford Transit with the XJ220 drivetrain. Though I don't think that's set up for corners...

Just don't mention that it was the only commercial vehicle to EVER run the course.
Its not hard to hold a record when you are the only competitor. FAIL. |

Tysonv48 VAUXHALL MALOO PICK-UP REVIEW
Price £51,500 ($79k approx) For Searing pace and capable handling make the Vauxhall Maloo great fun to drive, and with a huge covered load area, it’s reasonably practical if you only need seating for two. Against The Maloo’s insatiable thirst for fuel and weak resale values mean the running costs aren't as reasonable as the purchase price. The interior is bland, too. The Vauxhall Maloo blends supercar pace and pick-up truck styling. Few cars will get you as a many looks, but there are better ways to spend this sort of money. http://www.whatcar.com/car-reviews/v...mary/26126-14/

A light commercial ute would have to be able to carry a fair amount of weight in my opinion not less than 800kg.

You bunch of whingers - if it was an FPV you'd all be saying how good it is.
Good on 'em for showing them Aussie cars are a good thing - regardless of badge.

Don't bag it people it is a Aussie vehicle.
The fact a Ford Ute was not there doesn't matter , You want to bag the other Aussie take another brand there and show the world how great the Ford is. Otherwise just stay on your keyboard and be a non contributor to the world of speed records. But hey you may become a legend in your lunch box cause you said XYZ..ECT. A Holden showed up a Falcon did not so it was the fastest on the day Big Deal get over it. |

Really, couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding? Whatever reviews the locals can get worldwide to grab attention to our cars the better. Good on HSV.

Not sure how reliable online reviews are, but a quick google indicates the Maloo has a 500kg payload vs a GS Ute's 540kg.

The E1 Maloo looks so much tougher than the newer versions imo, and regardless of the badge it's an awesome machine.
Anyway, how many people actually buy a Maloo or a GS purely for carrying heaps of crap for work? I wouldn't think too many. |
