Had a look at the new Mazda 6 over the weekend. One of the best looking mass produced cars around IMO. Pictures don't do it justice, looks very Maserati like in it's lines and curves, and not that much smaller than a new Falcon/Commodore in side (very flat boot though). No interest free finance, fixed priced servicing just what looks to be a quality car that people seem to want at the moment, with a better customer focused dealer network (so far).
Only the new Mondeo comes close looks wise (saw glimpses of the the new Mondeo in white leaving Autonexus in Melbourne on the back of a truck a few months ago, couldn't tell if it was RHD or LHD), once again, pictures didn't do that car justice either. I hope FOA have access to the new Mondeo soonish or they will be left behind again in the medium car market, the engine options Ford are likely to be offering on the Mondeo seem alot more interesting than Mazda's, along with a greater range to tech as well. If they bring out a AWD high out ST version, they may have one of the best cars on the market.

Had exactly the same opinion until I drove a proper AWD car in anger, I'll probably have the same opinion of FWD until I drive a Renault or new Focus ST.

Can't wait to have a good look at the wagon version of the 6.
I have to agree one of the best looking mass produced cars available right now.

I had a quick look at one the other day and loved it, it's a fantastic looking car, if I had the money I'd be in one of them in a second. The interior looks like something out of an Audi and by all accounts the build quality is meant to be insanely good. It's gonna clean up sales wise. I feel sorry for Ford and GM, they don't stand a chance.

Rear end has very similar lines to the I45.
Looks like a good package.

Still think it looks much better in the flesh.
Mazda seem to have the same problem in Europe as Ford do in Australia. No one wants the 6 or 3 because they rather the Mondeo / Focus and in Oz it's the opposite. It's all about the Brand IMO, Mazda is percieved as a quality brand in Oz but not in Europe and vise versa in Oz, cars are exactly the same, if anything you get alot more free kit in your Mazda in Europe than you do here.

I seen a white one the other day. Only as I drove passed, looks terrible but it was only a quick look. I love the pics though. A closer look will prob change my mind.

56k buys you something with the same kit as a $100K Euro, should be the same in the top spec Mondeo when its released and it should get the Ford Sync thing (if it works properly).
No local Ford or Holden can be speced with the same kit (not currently anway). I'm pretty sure the camry doens't get it either.

This seems like a common thing with Ford, and is probably why it has just a poor public perception in Australia.
When Mazda and Ford build cars on the same platform, it is ALWAYS Mazda that comes out first. That impressive for a little Japanese company on the verge of bankruptcy, that can't sell cars successfully anywhere in the world except, it seems, into Australia. I'm sure the upcoming Mondeo will be a quality car, but we've seen pictures of it as far back as a year and a half ago, and it's still near on two years away. The public aren't silly about these things, they know Ford treat Australia poorly when it comes to product availability. Ford will languish in low-sales low-perception land forever until they improve on this. Lukeyson

Although I think it's one of Mazda's better efforts, personally it just doesn't do it for me. It looks good from some angles but terrible from others. It appears to be a mish mash of several different cars. The rear end looks almost like a carbon copy of the Hyundai I45's rear. Inside, the centre stack looks like it was taken directly out of a 5 series BMW. The steering wheel looks like it belongs in a dodgem car. And those A pillars make a VE's A pillars look wafer thin.
Overall, I dont think its a bad car but it just doesn't interest me. |

No thanks Mr Mazda....
The interior looks like same old, same old cheaper copy of a Mercedes dash. A mate just got quoted 4000 dollars for a steering rack out of warranty and two thousand dollars to replace wiperwasher water bottle leaking....(half the car has to be disassembled to get to it) (car had done 60,000k.) |

To me it looks just like a Hyundai in the pics. I too prefer the look of the new Mondeo.
Are you saying that the Mazda 6 MPS is fulltime AWD? I thought it was 100% to the fronts until slip was detected. Unlike the Subaru AWD which is always 50% to the front and 50% to the rears.

Since when is the MPS a proper AWD? It's a front bias if I've ever seen one.
