went to move the van yesterday, backed in to hook up, possibly a bit quicker than usual, done it a million times so she'll be right
"BANG" followed by a "pop"......Hmm! that don't sound right, went and had a look, yep put half the van's receiver socket and adjusting bolt through my bumper, a fraction left of the ball right next to a reversing sensor as a famous man once said "missed by that much!" hooked up the van and moved it, leaving the car attached, then went inside to talk to the insurance, 2 quotes please got our panel beater out for a nose, damage cursory assessed at "around" $600......new bumper of course and painting with possibly a new sensor by this time a couple of hours had passed....went back out unhooked the van, hit the remote button to unlock the car, nothing happened, went to start the vehicle absolutely dead except for a couple of clicks a feller, who happens to be around my size, left the fridge in the van switched to 12 volt and it drained my battery......call the RAA for a jump start and thankfully, all is sweet now dagnabbit......some days it just pays to leave vans and cars alone

not so sure......some days, especially in winter, when jack frost bights and I cant move for about an hour until I "warm up" I think about the alternative
but anyhoo.....I'll have to wait until the new year to put her in for repairs......crash repair shop is shutting down shortly stupid bloody thing to do! I was planning on nicking off just after chrissy....but wont be able to until this is sorted now

What annoys me most about getting old is one becomes 'invisible'. When I was younger I used to get second looks from pretty young women. These days it is like I no longer exist to them. But their mothers sometimes give me a second look........

just between you and me I am, but don't tell them that......but honestly thats because I listen and I talk back to them...lot of folks wont listen to what our youngsters have to say these days, too wrapped up in themselves but I know what you're saying, folks look "through" us and call us "love" and "sweetie" at the checkouts....grates a bit but they think it's the "right thing to say"......better than saying "heres your groceries you old *****" but so help me if a boy scout ever try's to help me across the road I'll bean him one thing that I really enjoy about "this stage of life" is that kids seem to take a shine to me, I often have a kiddie run to me when things aren't looking so hot for him/her and she/he needs a shoulder.....phone calls at night when mum and dad aren't being as co-operative as the youngster would like......I like that we seem to have a whole lot more friends and the money to enjoy them.....I like that too......but I seem to have less time plus a lot of old mates and family are falling off the tree more each year things are harder to do and often take longer, .....I'm not overly fond of that yes Yeti, I could just ignore the tear/hole in my bumper, it really isnt all that big, probably a 3 inch circular damage area, but I'd prefer to have it repaired and maybe choof off a little later.......it doesn't look very nice and besides it may be a bit cooler by then but it was simply a stupid mistake followed by another......

I am only 21 and I find that my age is a hinderance on my job a lot too.
I give customers site visits for solar power/hot water/LED lights/insulation/Rainwater tanks, and sometimes as soon as a customer sees me at the front door, they give me a little confused look and even sometimes say "are you sure you're the solar guy?" even though I been doing it a lot longer than most of the older guys I'm selling against and find their mistakes so easily, I am still seen as too young to be considered professional and sometimes it really gets to me. Same with day to day life, when going out into the city at night with friends, the girls always seem to go for the older guys and not the 21 year old with long hair because he looks too young. Seems the only girls who seem to chase after Stagg are the 18 year old hipster girls in Fitzroy because it;s the only place that there seem to be girls who are younger than 21! Not to mention the higher insurance premiums, the issue that landlords have with younger tenants even though I don't throw parties the assumption is always made without fail, and even though I do my best to stay healthy and professional, because I am young it is always assumed that I am a young hooligan out to cost someone money and make stuff ups. So frustrating sometimes!!!

mate, you're not alone......my advice to you is simply be yourself, .......main reason for that is that everybody else is already taken
let your personality shine through and make it a good one, be forthright and always shoot from the hip and never from the lip.... you're at an age when girls don't really know what they want.....(come to think of it I still cant figure most of them out) when they see an "out there" personality, well, that attracts them far more than they admit.....but just remember to remain "the good guy" not necessarily "the fun guy" nice girls will choose the good guy over every other person almost every time we've all done the "awkward" age stuff, you're not breaking new ground here......bottom line, it does get better and life is good never forget that..get knocked down, get straight back up and tackle it from another angle a lot of folks will take you at face value so make that your best shot, just remember you only get one chance at a first impression, make it a good one have a smile ready and a cheery personality with product knowledge second to none and you will quickly win the customers (and girls) over us oldies (and I would assume we are your main customers) don't like bulldust pitchers.....so know your stuff your in your best years.......No 1 thing to do is to bloody well enjoy this time.....don't sweat the small stuff......there is a bigger picture here and you will see it in years to come and wish you could do these early years over again

I've backed into my own wheelie bins in the driveway twice now...
Resulted in two very small dents in the boot, but I'll just leave em there I'd say. That's 2 x senior driving moments, with more to come I guess !! Yep, agree with the invisibility cloak that seems to descend as the years pass by !

" things are harder to do and often take longer "
Yes it takes all night to do what we used to do all night . Whats the difference between a young man and an old man ? The young man has four supple members and one solid one , the old man has four solid ones and one supple one .

It's not about how young or old you are, it's your attitude that counts, and how you present yourself. If you are confident in what you're doing and your ability to do it well, and look sharp, then you'll never have any trouble winning people over.

Did you go through insurance, or just pay for the repairs yourself?
Why isn't there a low voltage cut off switch for the fridge? Does the van have its own battery? The dual battery controller should have prevented your vehicles battery from being flattened. |
