As stated.. This is why you always meet somewhere neutral when selling anything a bit collectable through Ebay....

Definitely a hard lesson learned..
I had this happen to a mate's brother in law.. He was selling a bike on bike sales, a guy had been contacting him for a week to come and see the bike.. They agreed on a time to meet.. When the prospective buyer arrived, he arrived in a brand newish VE Calais, they spoke for an hour or so about the bike, then the guy asked to take it for a run.. My mate's brother in law agreed. He didn't ask for ID before the test ride, purely because the guy left the VE there, so he figured, he'd be back.. An hour later, they called the police as the prospective buyer had not returned. They told the police about the VE and gave them the rego. It turned up stolen..!! They tried calling the phone number they had, but it was constantly switched off.. Number can not be tracked to anyone as it was a pre-paid..! After investigations by police (who apparently know the theif) and by the insurance company, he still hasn't received a pay-out from insurance. They are sticking to the line of "You should have asked for ID"..! Just be careful when selling guys..!! Cheers

He turned up with heaps of kids in the car, even handed me the keys "Mate nothin will happen, theres the car keys, the kids are in the car ,all good" After the test pilot run, he mentioned he does this alot Not his car, not his keys and the kids and car are his siters or friends I never sell or let people test pilot with much fuel in the tank They cant get far, with no juice People who do this sort of thing have to come up with more cunning ways to extract your car |

Just wanted to point that out because it seems a common misconception that pre-paid users are harder to track than post-paid. You'd still need a court order for access to that information of course.

Seems a stretch to blame EBAY because his car was knocked off!

I always go in the Car with them.
If they don't like it I don't want them to buy the car from me.

Screw that everybodies a thief, we are all convicts. Yep if your selling anything worth selling, then never meet at home. And always sit in on the test drive, this sort of thing happens too much.

I believe the car was stolen from his home, and he feels it was taken by a perspective buyer who found the car on EBAY and came to look at it, then returned and knocked it off.
