Has your ad cracked a bid yet. If it has then it is poor form to end it early. If it hasn't then go for your life.

just because you say that you reserve the right to end the ad doesnt mean you can it is against the terms and conditions of ebay, and frankly i hope they take some action against you.

I believe you can cancel an e-bay add up to 24 hours prior to its end date/time. If there is a bid it gets more difficult and ethics comes into play. You can cancel a bid, its etiquette to let the bidder know why. Its irrelevant if only one bidder exists but is below your reserve. I wouldnt try and cancel the sale after its finished and there was a winning bidder, that's very poor form, but all to common because the seller didn't know what they were doing and didn't get the money they thought it was worth.
Dont cancel the Auction until the other buyers coughs up the cash, otherwise you may not meet agreement and you have to start again ****ing off any one or two bidders you may have already.
To cancel and add use an excuse item was not as described...ie you just broke it oops!

you can end an item even if there are bids I have had it happen to me and it say the reason for cancellation is the item is no longer available or item has been lost/damaged

Thanks trublu. If I had of been able to lower the buy it now it all would have worked out sweet as.

Yea not like I haven't been bent over by a seller before.I agreed to the sellers price years ago on a muscle car and the seller went ahead and relisted the car at the agreed price.lol

Yeah the amount of times my items (and car in one case) have sold, then the winning bidder pulls out and is a no show is ridiculous. So I say if you can get what you're after through another deal, just take it and cancel the eBay auction.

It's just not worth hanging on because if the winner doesn't pay, then you wait 4 days, lodge a non payment form, wait another 5-7 days, then eBay will give you your selling % back. Then you start again.Time, time, time.

Go back and read the terms and conditions then... EBay makes provision for cancelling an ad after it has been started....

Mate just change the reserve to a massive ammount, then no one will buy it. Thats what i did when i sold my rims, sold them on gumtree then put the price up massive on ebay so they couldn't sell. I never sell on ebay anymore 18% in fees is rediculous

You cannot raise the reserve price, you can only lower it.

You can end the auction at any time you like regardless or not if you put in a disclaimer, that is your right.

Although eBay/PayPal state that you should not deal outside of eBay I have many times ended an auction item early as the purchaser has offered a comparable price.

Ultimately it is up to you to risk a transaction out of eBay/PayPal

Good luck to you

I had my 68 Xt on Ebay and ended the auction early. My reserve had been met but some one offered me a price to good to refuse.. I contacted Ebay to find out about what I could do and they told me I could end the auction anytime.

That sounds ok James at the end of the day are you going to miss out on a sale because the buyer does not want to deal with ebay.Don't think so.

The problem I found with Ebay is you get people bid and then not contact once they have won.. This happened to me, unfortunatly it ruins the auctions for the good buyers.

Be very wary of people who don't want to bid and want to act outside of ebay, they are generally dodgey.

Be aware, be very aware.

If you do deal outside of eBay always use the Australia Post COD option.

That way you get the goods before the seller gets the money.

I have personally done this with persons emailing me before my auctions end.

It's easy you screen them over the phone, ask heaps of questions you can usually tell if they are genuine by what they ask. I've had people ask for my for address straight away without asking anything about the car. I say nope if they hang up they dont want the car. All my cars are always garaged so security is good. I suppose its a risk you take in selling. Muscle / performance cars attract a few idiot tyre kickers.
