Was watching the TODAY show on Channel 9 over breakfast this morning - segment with Neil Mitchell commentary.
Interesting to see this make the morning show agenda.....albeit in a negative way. New Supercharged HSV GTS Basically - backlash against the new performance HSV
How does that SKYHOOKS song go again............... "I'm livin in the 70's".......... |

Only the elite are allowed to have power. So Ferraris are ok.

Funny, Mercedes and BMW get no bad press for Turbo V8 or V10 powered cars but if its a Holden or Ford, than they are death machines.

Agreed, but the comments were most likely made because its an Australian made car & in only a few years will be affordable to young drivers.

Using Neil Mitchell's logic you'd immediately have to question the validity of every motorbike on today's roads outside of a Vespa. For far, far less than any HSV or FPV I can pop into a motorbike shop and come home with a 1,000cc missile.

Where are the tools in the media who criticised FPV in 2004 when the Typhoon was unveiled??? They are earily quiet.

Has Neil Mitchell ever heard of a wonderful new invention called a track day? Where a racing track is opened to the public to drive their cars in any manner they want in a safe environment?
With this sort of outlook he must be either not into cars, or has been paid quite a lot of money to force his nanny state ideals on us.

It just wouldnt (and shouldnt) happen in todays market, you could then argue that Australia is then not being made able to compete..then you have job losses etc...
Its like trying to compare athletes from different eras, sure they both have skills but the rules and regs, technology etc is all advanced... its close to impossible have apples vs apples.

Neil Mitchell is a shock jock just like Ray Hadley or Derryn Hinch.
His primary mission is to stir up dissent and keep himself in the spotlight. If there is no reaction to his anti car blab he will go onto something else immediately. If, on the other hand squillions of upset people go bezerk on the internet he will milk this for all he can get. IGNORE EVERYTHING HE SAYS OR HE WILL JUST NEVER SHUT UP. |

So - let me get this straight:
HSV are going to do a limited run of an exclusive GTS-type car with the S/C V8 (430kw), and it's gonna be about $100k (though probably more like $120k). The regular GTS will be available (at 340kw - just above the FPV GT) so really its pretty much even at the top of the range in power-for-money.... Um - what happened to the W427? That was like 375kw and in the $100k+ bracket.... Don't remember the 'go-slower' crowd screaming all that loudly when that one came out. The 'power war' and the 'supercar scare' are going to come around full circle - as the media love getting a hold of this one - especially so they can run some of the file footage of VN's doing burnouts and bogans jumping around in the camera.... perfect for Today Tonight and ACA. Must be a slow news day..........

And all the while the FPV GS and GT cars fly under the radar because they under-rate the engines..
HSV are on a hiding to nothing with this, if they tell the truth about the real power of the engine, they will get hammered by the media, if they understate the power like FPV does, the fans and buyers will be be upset and disappointed because it's all about the Kw badge on the boot.. For all we know HSV will rate the engine @ 350kw. They are just as clever as FPV, why poke the power bear? 350 is as good a number for them as 351 could be to FPV.
It is only the media reading up on what this motor makes in the States at the moment. In fact I am more inclined to believe that 340 will be the SC engine, 5 up on the GT.

They are not that clever, it's all about the maximum Kws going on the badge out back
HSV have a history of advertising the full power of the engine as part of bragging rights... |

As it stands they have the runs on the board, who are we to question how they go about it? Seems to work for them.

The euros by comparison are very conservative about it and Prius loving Joe Public probably has no idea what an M3, RS4 /RS6, C63/ E63 are capable of. I've been waiting for the next super car scare, seems it's on its way. With the media fixation on Hoons it was only a matter of time. |

My first thought this morning was this sort of stuff will nail Ford and Holden shut. The average buying public and taxpayer are not interested in these cars and their association with bogan Australia.
Not a bright move from Holden when they have their hand out to the govt for survival. It would be better to have these cars fly under the radar for enthusiasts rather than shout from the roof tops. |
