I was just curious to see what others think, I'm not sure if this threads been done so apologies if it has. Do you think with the falcon coming to an end that the Fpv vehicles will become more collectible ?

Remember when 4cyl cars were rear wheel drive? Notice when going to drags the cars are either older rwd or front wheel drive converted to rear wheel drive.. GAS motor sports Celica as an example.. Not to mention Toyota in V8's.. Road cars cannot be modified like that ! !! If they all go front wheel dive ?? Good luck having much more than 220 wheel KW!! Traction control would be working big time !!!

Yeah in 2045 a FG GT might be worth something as they will be 30 plus years old.
You never know one might sell for a $1 million dollar after all the XY GTHO did but then we will all be in flying cars and petrol won't exist so it won't be usable so maybe worth nothing or just in a museum.

Due to the success of fpv my thinking was that fpv would be retained to finely tune mustang and taurus for australian market. So I don't know.

May be for those that are interested in them, may be not, it's a very limited market and there is an abundance of them around, sometimes I think there are more FPV's than people that want them, I mean BF Cobra's are supposed to be rare and collectable yet there is always at least 5-10 for sale at any one time.
I mean 98% of the population could not care less about a 70's GT Falcon, where as some people go nuts for them. I closely work with about 20 blokes, mostly between 30 and 45 and not one of them could care in the least about old or new GT's or even FPV's, and some don't even know what they are or that they are worth something. Was talking about my brothers genuine XY GT the other day at work and they could not believe that anyone would want to own or drive one, or pay more that $800 for one I actually think they did not believe me when I told them what the car would be worth. At the end of the day who cares??? Just drive it if you like it.

Almost any Ford (or Holden or Chrysler) from the 70's is worth money nowadays & they made heaps of them, I don't see why a current FPV wouldn't be worth money 20 or 30 years from now. Stands to reason if you think about.
Although you & I know that these cars don't have a true racing heritage, how many young people would have been watching Marcos Ambrose dominate the 2003 & 2004 V8 Supercar series & been thinking... "man I would love a GT Falcon when I can afford one"... Supply & demand, if people want something, which lets face it most car enthusiasts love a rear wheel drive V8 & they cant buy it new they will turn to the 2nd hand market. My opinion only of course

I think more to the point, FPV will release a fare well GT Falcon in some form. This will become sought after by long term investors. Don't be surprised if people pay thousands of dollars over the sticker price just to get their hands on one.

Maybe, they're bloody good cars and they go bloody well and they're not making any more soon, so sooner of later, (probably later), the laws of supply, (lack of), and on-going demand will be supportive of the price.

Near future no, but possibly in a few decades.
Today's GTs just don't have the racing heritage of the original GTs If its purely a money investment point of view, put $70k into a high interest saver account for 30 years, I'm sure you will be much better off financially. |

Which one, the first original R-Spec (FPV BF GT R-Spec), the Cobra R-Spec, the BF F6 R-Spec (not a GT I guess so it's out) or the latest FG R-Spec???

I refuse to give up on the falcon until it's said and done. I honestly can't see myself in anything other. I tossed up between spending the 15g more for a new f6 but decided on the turbo so I could have 15g more towards a house but now I'm kinda wishing I got the f6 but there is still time and hope however little it is.

A lot of people must think they will be collectable because the dealers are saying they have had a huge rush on people making enquiries about buying GT's.
So more than a few people seem to think so and want to buy one as a collectable. |

Things don't work out like some people plan,
I remember growing up in the 1970s and 1980s that nearly all XW and XYs that were around became V8 powered and GT copies. By that reasoning, I can see a huge market for engine importers to convert B and F series Falcons into either 5.4s or Coyotes. Maybe people who really want a HP Falcon will buy reasonable versions or perhaps make their own HP V8 or turbo 6 Falcon |

I wonder how the ecu , fuel system , and other hi tech bits survive after 30 years. Xy owner now "you got a caliper kit for my front brakes?" Fg owner " after a rebuild kit for my abs and while your at it have you got a repo accelarator pedal with the inbuilt sensor?" .
Maybe as it is now with early GTs a fpv in 30 years will be sought after but the owner for the next x amount of years is gonna have to pour some serious money into it to keep it up to scratch. A high % of this latest technology has yet to be proven to last 10 years so its a very big if! |

Well, I'm glad I have an xb coupe project. Most of the new replacement panels are low grade steel and don't fit because of the cheap presses they use. Every panel I have bought has required some modification and to the keen eye you can pick it and it will annoy the enthusiast. The wiring in my box trailer is more complex than my xb. 30 years from now trying to get some computer part for the current model falcons? All the plastic and trims? good luck!

I love ebay !! I love buying a car through the post. I love the challenge of the jigsaw pieces (at $200 a part). I love it when people list a part as fitting a van, sedan or coupe. I love it even more when you pick up a part and they honestly cant remember if it came from a coupe or a sedan. I love my wife carrying a bumperbar up the hill to put in the car after I got it delivered to her work. Yeah Yeah. No better way to rebuild a car.. |

To my mind FPVs will always be sought after by enthusiasts, certain models will command a higher desireability factor, no doubt in my mind they will worth $$$ in the future at some stage, when that happens is any ones guess.

Yep, totally agree with you there. I just don't know how people can be saying, yes, I am going to buy a 2016 model car yet, when no one knows what it will be, its cost or what it will look like? I wonder how many people will say this, but actually go through with it? I might ring my local dealer and show some interest just to get there hopes up for 3 years from now! As for collectability, yes they will be more sought after now, but by how much? By the time you buy one, pay insurance and or rego for 30 years, keep up maintenance etc over 30 years, you may get $1 million dollars for it, but the average wage will be $300,000 then too! HSV will have an 800kw monster and no one will want a 335kw or whatever they bring out next car? I don't know, none of us have a crystal ball do we?

It's all about supply and demand. Ford enthusiasts will always want to buy GT's. Parts are going to skyrocket. People will charge accordingly for the privilege of owning an FPV. I'm going to put a sticker price of $500,000 on my one of 24 BF GT now, because I don't want to sell it.

They will be like TRAX model cars. Every dude will have one in a box unused, hoping to cash in on their "investment".

better make sure you start them every month and take them for a drive.getting an xa falcon going that's been sitting for 20 years is a very simple task,dont know if id like to try and get a new gt going if it has been sitting for a 20 years.
as far as them being collectable well id say that good cars will be desirable because you wont be able to buy that type of car anymore but I think unless they are in excellent condition and running I don't think they will be worth much. there is one difference between the muscle cars and these,most 70's cars were driven and if these cars are going to all be kept as collectable there will be a huge supply and when people move on the demand will be small. |
