Taking delivery of a new car this afternoon. What route options are there, an road quality, conditions, cameras, etc? Would like a route that is less travelled and as few trucks as possible.

If using the highways, drive overnight. Trucks don't hang around or muck around.
Night - you get there. Day - you go crazy trying to get there. Caravans, tourists, families, yocals - yukky! If you not familar with roads, stick to bruce & pacific. Kempsey bypassed and at least on main roads you get rest areas, well lit (at times) and servo's regularly.

Agree, driving at night most truck drivers are considerate as well.

Planning on a trip, on the Leichardt, Newell highways in September, I will be travelling patiently with the trucks and grey nomads during the day, I fear meeting up with skippy driving at night, also I have never been on these roads before, so more daylight vision the better.

I have driven from toowoomba to hervey bay on friday and there is lots of road works and pot holes to watch out for from maryborough to highfields(10min north of toowoomba. But one bonus heaps of long striaght runs to stretch the falcons legs(which i had a fair go). Just watch for pot holes especially from nanango to crows nest

Just a heads up. Road after walcha was in disrepair. Potholes and corrugations. Also had a very close encounter with a bear sized wombat in middle of the road. Thank Germany for DSC otherwise there would be one less new gt335 on the road, or even worse I would not be writing this.

Last I did the trip I did it at night. Sure skippy is harder to see but the trucks tend to sit over the speed limit. Wedge yourself in between a pair and just cruise on down.
