Welcome Jetxr6
Depends on what you want to do, A drag car and a track car are very different beasts especially if you want to get semi serious.
But some good advice, irrespective of what you actually do is but the newest and best chassis/shell you can find to start. I have a 1971 Mk1 escort improved production circuit car which is undergoing another round of rust and damage repairs to the floors and bulkheads. And parts are getting hard to find. Then I am still left with a 1971 car and its poor suspension design, poor chassis rigidity despite 35 meters of roll cage tubing and expensive repairs and even more expensive cosworth parts to make it go fast.
Plus there is nothing worse than spending money on repairs rather than modifications.
So why an X series falcon? rust, age and parts availability, poor dynamics and permanent compromise.
If I build another race car it will be a few year old car, no rust and available parts, will be small enough to be able to be towed behind a normal car/ute/4WD on a trailer that isn't 4 meters wide and 20 long...you know what I mean.
Of course when You say track car I read dedicated race car not road registered compromise.

i see what you say about the older car.
I've always liked the look of the X series falcon
just have a mean look to them that i like

as you said about a car few years newer I've got a 04 BA XR6
but running that i don't want to damage anything as it is my daily.
it has growler and exhaust. but stock as it sits will it handle a day on the track (Drag) or will i be damaging anything. don't know how strong a Barra motor is n/a or the diff and gearbox will be ok under a lot of load
