Default Speed camera fine in Qld

I got caught for speeding the other day. 69 in a 60 zone. This is my first mobile camera fine and I remember that people used to say that if there were 2 cars in the pic, you could be let off. Is that still the case? I didn't notice the van at all at the time! So I don't know if I was truly speeding or not.

In the pic it looks like the white car would already have gone through the detection beam? Not sure about the oncoming traffic one.

Opinions?

Nah your screwed lol.

Now they use lots of fancy terms to basically say 'we say it was you, so don't argue'

And that one, having the info on the photo means it was taken with the proper speed camera so no out there.

You don't pay enough attention to your surroundings while driving so deserve the fine, especially as you are past the camera car.
Consider it a voluntary tax.

Two questions.

Were you traveling faster than 60km/h at that time?
Were you gaining on the Golf or was he pulling away from you?

That last line in the info box will indicate which lane triggered the camera. Sadly, I don't speak Gatso

In Vic , it is widely understood , if you have not infringed in the last 3 years , you can write to the office of infringements and state that , plead that this was a terrible oversight and clearly based on your past perfect record , they will allow you a pass .. Not sure though , whether the same policy is allowed on Qld ?? All the best

Maybe. It had been fine until then. Maybe it was all the extra power I gained over a FPV badge?

Yeah my brother in Vic told me about that one. It's a shame they don't do that here. Last fine was in 2005.

Totally agree! Can't believe I didn't see it. I always couldn't understand how someone can drive passed a camera and then get fined!

Don't beat yourself up about not seeing the camera vehicle. They are often positioned behind trees and things that block your approach vision.

Some info on cameras here ... http://www.policespeedcameras.info/index.php/en/

I committed the offence on the 10/5. I can't remember what happened back then. I can't even remember what I did yesterday

I'm happy to pay the fine but if I don't have to, then that's even better.

Check out www.aussiespeedingfines.com they have got heaps of info there that can help you fight your fine and save your points.

Just ask the DPP like what i did in court
Can you prove that the picture cannot be tamper?
Usually they can't prove it so they picture will be taken out as evidence,
plus because they send you the fine they also need to prove that you are driving.

No, you need to prove you were NOT driving by filling out a Stat Dec on the back. If you were driving you can take it to court but usually the costs outweigh the fine. $146 and 1 point here I guess. If a company car you can pay 5 times the $$$ and get no points.

Amongst all the numbers are a code for the location, which will have to be approved, your speed 69, date/time etc. It also says F or A, Away in this case.
Elsewhere on the ticket is a "Smith St" location and a zoom on the number plate.

I can GPS track my cabs and the speed on the ticket has never been wrong...yet.

You will need a very good reason to get off.

These days speed camera's can track multiple lanes and multiple cars at a time so the old "blame the car next to me" doesn't work anymore.

Just pay the fine - plus within 10km's its only 1 demerit point isn't it? Not worth the hassle I reckon..

If it is possible to beat the fine on a technicality, I'm all for it, because that may end up being the fine that puts you over in 2 years time.

If you write enough letters you can usually get away with most things.
I'm amazed how quickly an infringement gets withdrawn when I elect to have the matter heard in court.
The whole camera system is a bluff. It relies on people bending over and paying up when they get a fine in the mail.Fight it and you just might get a nice surprise.

Terrible quality photo for a scam that rakes in millions of dollars a year. My $60 dashcam has a better picture than that.

NSW now have upgraded from the Ford Territory and now also use Isuzu utes with canopy's on the back. Probably so they can legally have darker than 35% tint on the rear window to hide the cameras better.

About 2 years ago I saw one of these camera 'operators' packing up for the day, then about 2 minutes latter he overtakes me doing 10+km/h over the limit. An email was sent that evening about this drivers deadly driving habits, but obviously I never got a reply. Really wish I had my dash cam then, the whole system is pathetic.

In nsw anyone who gets done by a fixed camera which have 3 massive signs before them, or mobile cameras that have 2 decent sized signs before and 1 after the camera really should reconsider if they should continue to drive on the road as their eyesight and observation skills are sorely lacking.

I can nearly understand other states with their covert mobile cameras, but it doesn't take a genius to work out you slow the f down where parked cars are.....

So which one is it? Pay the fine or try and beat it?

They're doing away with the signs from what I've seen around here so it makes it even harder to pick them out.....

With regards to the OP's photo, I'd like to know how they decide who is in the wrong as well.

In the OP it says mobile speed camera. So far as I have seen in both NSW and QLD the operator puts the sign wherever they damn well like and rarely facing the traffic and most often facing across the road. i travelled the Pac Hwy many times through about 12 fixed cameras every time up and 12 back and never got caught but have had speeding fines. My wife travelled those same roads and although had only 1 speed fine in 20 years got caught twice in 3 months by fixed cameras we had been through 100 times. Sometimes we dont see huge signs cos they just become part of the landscape after passing them soooo many times.

Have to agree that the mobile speed camera signs are poorly placed in NSW (if at all?).
Got a surprise last night. Did not see a sign before, then got blinded briefly by a flash.
Which by the way, they should NOT take oncoming photos, it's very distracting at night. Tried looking for a sign afterwards, but sure as hell couldn't see one.

Quiet night just watching the road, didn't notice my speed creeping up... looked down and i was over though. Unfortunate but will have to cop it.

For NSW, if you haven't been booked in the last 10 years, you can request leniency:

Consider it a voluntary tax.
This is the biggest BS ever.
In Victoria you get fine for doing exactly the same limit in some places,
because all or most of the cameras are faulty in Victoria.

That's why you see them turn off a lot of cameras and issue refunds for fines in Victoria.

If everyone were to get a fine and say they deserve the fine and pay the fine as a voluntary tax
they would just fine you for no reason in future.

Stay up for your rights here everyone of us who drive a performance car
wants to be able to go for a cruise down the road or in the country area
doing the correct speed limit without being targeted by the COPS
or being tailgate by them for miles.

Superfly i would like to suggest that you give the guy name
Scott Cooper a call on
0419 536 975
Monday to Sunday
8am to 7pm

Have a chat to him about your case and he will tell you what to do
to fight the case in court rather than just pay the fine.

Do you know that insurance premiums go up and they can even
knock you back a claim if you did not tell them you got a ticket
for going over a speed camera.
Take action now Superfly cos i would like to see you fight and win in court.
Stand up for your rights.

Is there any technical evidence to show this is possible? Or is it just talk to hand out more fines.

Although this is caradvice in Australia it's an American system where this is implemented. I don't know if this has been applied in Australia, but if it is we're screwed..
