A QLD-based importer has been given approval to assemble Ford's F Series trucks and sell them locally. As I'm sure most of you are aware, the F Series proved a sales hit when Ford sold in here a few years ago (but had to withdraw it from the market due to changes to the emission rules).
You've been able to bring them over and have them converted to RHD but it seems that these guys are going to do that all for a lot less money. They're claiming a RRP of under $100K which is reasonable. Anyway it would be nice to see them being sold through Ford dealers but I guess Ford get paid indirectly. Seems like a positive step to me.
Being a low-volume 'producer' of sorts, maybe there's hope after 2016 for the handful of people who still want a big, V8-powered RWD sedan. RHD CTS-V anyone? |

Misleading article.
They won't be building them here, just converting them to RHD. Don't know why they say assemble them here as that's clearly incorrect. |

This is old news really. The sub 100k price is a mis-nomer and no one would probably lust after a crew fleet spec vehicle. As the article says it's still more like $135k up once on-road with anything reasonable.
Ask if that's value versus the USA vehicle given they used to be less when our dollar was 50 cents. It makes the conversions circa $50k plus - a lot of money for what you get IMO. I wonder if they can do the passenger airbag. VDC leave that out of their conversions. |

This has been happening for a while in QLD with some importers & I believe it is the Canadian models being used. |

Even at $135K its probably a good competitor compared to a top spec Landcruiser to pull a big van.

Why don't they just allow LHD permits to be issued in AUS? Most other RHD countries seem to allow it?
I don't get it. They won't allow LHD, or protrusions from the bonnet, but these are fine; The ultimate in southern cross pride douchebaggery |

For the superduty trucks, (250and above) VDC have sole importation rights.
I was looking to bring a 250 in earlier this year, but discovered that hey are the only people approved to do it. Major ****off because the one i wanted would have cost me around 75 k all done ( i was planning to buy a conversion kit and diy.) vdc couldnt get me the same spec and anything close was going to run $150k approx. Given i was doing my figures on retail ex us, its a joke. |

They should get in bed with Ford Australia. Sell them through Ford dealers with factory servicing Australia wide and warranty. Apparently the work is really good.
I know the Aussie converted Toyota Tundras have better interior build quality than the factory LHD versions. |

One of my mates has the same thing, 5 poster on a WB with 2m CB aerials on each end, and the local tyre shop owner has the same setup but on a VS ute.

I wouldn't own one, but B&S style utes are a unique part of our auto culture so I like them. I'd like to see a Proton Jumbuck with that setup lol

As for LHD the latest iteration of RAWS and the legislation around that pretty much kill off any LHD post 1989. To give an example of how ludicrous the rules are, you can bring in a C4 Corvette of 1988 build date no problem. The same car, of 1989, 1990 etc are not allowed. The reason given is safety of the Australian fleet yet we allow a LoganBogan Tarago to run around never being checked, but you can't bring in and drive a C4 ZR-1 with nominal mileage. Australia is truly screwed.... |

Those bush pig utes are an interesting sight. Use to see one driving around here with about 8 ariels and about 300 LED orange marker lights. Funniest part was it was some tiny ute. Proton or something similar size. If though brought a big American ute here and sold it for a reasonable price, id upgrade to one with my next car purchase. But I cannot see that happening any time soon. |

the price is total bull.
are we going to play the import tax on an imported car, when they cease manufacturing here? probably not. and the luxury car tax is bullshit. |

Being a commercial vehicle, you would think it would be exempt from all that crap. But yeah, they should do away with it completely now. There is not much of a distinction between ordinary and luxury anymore. If they have to make a distinction and tax high end vehicles, apply it to a Rolls Royce or something in that league.
