Default why do you like driving an "old" car?

Currently I have use of a few different types of vehicles..

Amongst them I have a AU falcon and a brand new 2014 Audi A4 turbo Quattro s-line.

Driving the Audi, its smooth, reasonably quick, packed with technology, handles beautifully, luxurious, great media centre/stereo, looks killer..

But I enjoy driving the AU falcon just about as much. Sure its slower, looks nowhere near as good, handles nowhere near as good, less comfortable etc etc..

But with the Audi, theres just nothing to do with it, nothing to buy for it, no reason to open the hood. Its a car to just drive.

With the AU, theres always the thought of how to improve it a little, what you could buy, things you can try, do your own servicing and a community (such as fordforums) that really is passionate about these cars. Its way more customisable. All those things make for an enjoyable drive, its sort of like you contribute to the quality of the drive moreso than just steering the car.

Where the audi, your just a passenger and you have little other input. Its like that with most new cars, just drive them, very easy, minimal input required.

Why do you like driving an "older" car?

Because they have style and a sense of risk and adventure every time I sit in the drivers seat, will it brake down, will I die in a fireball after a small impact.
I consider an AU a new car!

I think you need to replace "driving" with "owning". The thread makes a little more sense then.

I don't see how "thoughts of improvements" can improve the drive.

You either like the slow, sloppy drive or you don't.

I'm sure if driven properly the Audi would put a smile on most peoples faces.

I think anything more than 10 years is an "old" car. It certainly aint a new car.

I don't consider AU's as "old". I love mine because it was cheap to buy, cheap to maintain/fix/modify, and it's fun.

Oh yes there is, do some research instead of posting for the sake of posting ..................

Audi Quattro upgrades include 380 mm 8/4 piston Brembo's, MTM 20 x 9 rims, full exhaust upgrade, flash tuning, hmmn, pretty much what you can do to an AU/BA/FG

AU isn't "old" by any stretch. And what's a "hood"?

Just another thread that good old hulk has once again thrown in the AU as the main topic and belittled it once again.. his attempt's to disrespect it are fruitful thats for sure.

I love the fact that he claims he has access to many car's BUT yet chooses to compare the AU.....
I love the fact that he claims he enjoys driving the AU BUT he has to mention and belittle it again by it's look's and driving and speed and handling.

Slow news day hey Hulkie.

Hood is at the opposite end to the "trunk".

Some cars now have them made out of al-oo-mi-num.

But here in Australia we have a bonnet and a boot, and on some cars they are made from aluminium.

Funny I still look at EA's & EB' as being new!! XF's are getting old now I guess but they still have a five speed manual & fuel injection so probably still new....ish!!!!!

Because they are generally cheaper to maintain and I don't have the funds to purchase a "modern" vehicle outright. I will never take a loan out on a depreciating asset like a car.

But with 1600km on it, why would you. It has factory s-line wheels and suspension and most importantly, a warranty. Also the mods come at a very hefty price premium over our fords.

Anything from exotics to AU's to VT's to Audi's. You name it has has one or has access to it through a plethora of friends asking for advice on cars at a BBQ.

On topic. I don't consider AU's old

Over our Fords?

Go and price some decent mods for a Focus XR5T/ST/RS and tell me they are cheap.

stop with your conspiracy theories!! I have another old car but an AU falcon is more relevant to us on this forum than a LS1 VT2.

The thread is actually a tribute to the AU and other old cars at how appealing they are over that of many new cars. Older cars are like barbie dolls but for men, instead of buying different outfits, hats and shoes, we can buy wheels, air intakes and extractors.

What, so this one's too new to modify? Do you not plan on putting a few more km's on it in the future? Or are you worried you might edge too close to that 162,000km deathtrap threshold?

So many questions! How do you sleep at night?

I reckon half of you guys look forward to new Hulk threads just so you can take swipes at him He said he enjoys driving an AU as much as a new Audi, I don't see where he's bagging AUs? They ended production 12 years ago, they're an old car now. But that's not an insult is it?

I've wondered if He's an 'entertainment bot' programmed to launch nonsensical thread topics whenever forum traffic drops below a certain level, for the purpose of generating interest.
