Hi Guys,
With the XR8 around the corner and the mustang GT is not far away either... i was comparing some Specs and i was thinking who will go with what. Again, personally the mustang's success and some what the XR8's success will be based on pricing, which is all still unknown at the moment. With the Missus Focus been paid off end of next year, we will be thinking of getting her another car and she is wanting something fast, so at the moment we will be looking between a Xr8 and a GT mustang. (as no RHD dodges at the moment) what is everyone's thoughts and what way are people planning to go themselves? Mustang or XR8? As we have my 300c, there is no real restrictions or needs for the next car, other then it needs to be fast and maybe have V8.. and these are 2 that is on our minds at the moment and both should be around the 50-60k mark. 2015 Ford Mustang GT (with TrackPack) 1680 – 1691kgs (Man / Auto) 319Kw / 542Nm 2015 Ford Falcon XR8 (based on 2014 GT) 1828 / 1835kgs (Man/Auto) 335kw / 575Nm

I think the obvious question is do you need 5 seats or do you need any practicability out of it?
Thats not to say the Mustang isnt practical, its just more limited.

I'm inclined to believe the Mustang would have better handling. But it's all to do with whether you carry back seat passengers often.

XR8 will still be quicker. Mustang will handle better though.

Considering the current Mustang GT is as quick if not quicker (0-100 & 1/4 mile) as the 335 FPV and the 2015 Mustang will out perform a Boss 302 there is no way the XR8 will be quicker in any way shape or form.
XR8 if you want the last of the Aussie V8s, four doors and five seats. Mustang if you want the better looking (subjective) better performing modern and up to date (tech wise) car. |

Unless she's going to drive the car at 8/10ths or harder at any time then outright performance and handling isn't going to mean squat when comparing the 2. It would come down to aesthetics and practicality. Does she need or want 4 doors and to comfortably seat 5 or does she like the look of the 'stang better and 2 doors is enough?
Also, I can't see why you couldn't get the Falcon to go and handle as well as the Mustang with not too much effort as isn't the 'stangs rear end based on the Falcon IRS anyway, so the two cars geometry wouldn't be poles apart to start with?

Its a tough call, i just had a look at the new falcon thread and saw the XR8, my goodness it is a sexy looking falcon, i was actually thinking it had a bit of mustang look to the front ..... or do i need glasses ?
but probably the wisest move would be to eyeball both cars when they are available and see which fits your needs best. |

XR8 will be as quick as an R Spec GT, if not quicker. R Spec GT is good for close to 12 seconds flat down the quarter?

Its a bit like comparing the F6 against a GTR in the other thread. Sure they are similar but if you were seriously looking at a sedan surely that means that a coupe is out of the question.
Born for different purposes although they can share similar traits.

Not really because the only option for a rear drive performance V8 will soon be the Mustang hence they are (fords only ) viable competitors. Number of doors and seats is irrelevant if you use this as your criteria.

Pretty good to have the options for a limited time anyway. You can solve it by getting the XR8 first, have it for a few years then get a Mustang. edit: as good as the XR8 far out that is a hot looking coupe!

I wonder how popular the manual will be when the 10R80 comes out. Granted that manuals offer that fun factor, but is it really worth giving up all that performance for, especially in a performance car?

Im going to get both, but am more excited for the Stang, the Falcon purchase will be more for sentimental reasons and ill probably keep it longer. Will visit the US in Oct to finalise my colour choice for the Mustang, oh and it will be an auto and yes all our spec Mustangs ( both EB and GT ) will have both PP and LP, Ford are doing this I believe to get favorable reviews from around the globe .

Every one on this forum would probably say the Mustang will sell really well.
But its a big 2 door Coupe/convertible, which suggests to me its for single people or those that can afford a weekend cruiser. The XR8 is more Practical.

My wife is 5 foot nothing and has no problem driving our 2007 Super Snake manual. Very driveable car. I do agree though, the XR8 would be far more practical. The back seat in the Mustang is good for kids and thats about it.
