Default Parcel shelf light law

Hi all.

Does anyone know the law regarding the parcel light, with a rear spoiler.

If you have a spoiler with lights in it, do you need to have an active parcel shelf light for registration?

Cheers

Almost as annoying as a rear fog lamp switched on unnecessarily. Obviously the required brightness is doubled with two lamps, so would be illegal.

ADR 60/00 specifies that there should be only one centre high mounted stop lamp. This would be applicable in all states of Australia.

Best and most accurate thing to do would be to email the question to Dept of Transport. If the answer is that you can dispense with using the parcel shelf light, then keep the answer in your glove box in case you find yourself in future law enforcement discussions.

I've seen cars with both. Doesn't look good to me.

Usually the globe is removed when a spoiler (with light) is fitted.

Sorry for the double post.

I just took a car in for a RWC. One item that failed was the center brake light. Had to disconnect the one furthest from the back (as in the one in the window)

As it is a high series the brake light was in the top of the window and wasn't blocked by the spoiler, but had to disconnect it anyway.

Not surprising. Refer posts 2, 3 and 4 above.
