Posting Wheels

I have a set of wheels I am going to sell, just wondering how you guys go about posting them. They still have tyres on them but they will need replacing. Thanks

If you need to post them any distance then the best plan may be:
- Get a tyre place to remove the old tyres without damaging the rims
- Either pay the tyre place to dispose of the old tyres, or alternatively use them to make garden bends, or roll them down a hill,
- See if the tyre place can give you some boxes for wheels already sold to post them in, and put an extra layer of heavy cardboard over each face.

All this said it'll probably cost you $40 at a minimum to have the tyres properly removed and disposed of, and a minimim of $60 to post or courier them even a short distance, so hopefully someone local buys them and picks them up from you...

Probably easier to get them to organise the freight if they don't want to pick them up.

I have used this company before when I sold my 50th anniversary wheels... Dropped the tyres/wheels to them and they wrapped them for me. Buyer was happy and no damage made during delivery which was interstate.

I sent a set once where I placed some thick heavy cardboard on both sides that I cut a little bit smaller than the tyre diameter then rolled them in shrink wrap and they arrived in good condition.

I also use this same method for stacking unused rims with or without tyres for storage in my shed.

The only difference is I use glad wrap. It’s a lighter gauge than shrink wrap but still does a great job for home storage.

With Rim boxes you’ll definitely need to remove the tyres to get the rims to fit.

A also took some photos with a newspaper headline to show they weren’t damaged before the courier picked them up plus a couple of happy snaps of the courier and van.

Over the top I know but that’s how I am.

I have used e-go.com.au and also smartsend.com.au. E-go can cost more and their insurance is more expensive of the two. Smartsend can be nazis on the package size and will charge you more if they think you are wrong.

I sent four dark agents with tyres using ego. Never had a drama with them. Although can be a little slower than the others.

I placed bubblewrap over the face, cut cardboard to sit of the face then wrapped the whole wheel / tyre in bubblewrap again. If you know where to shop you can get bulk bubblewrap cheap.

I had a set of rims with tyres sent to me from Melbourne. I cant' recall the name of the courier, but it was one of the major companies.

They were placed onto a onto a wooden pallet, covered in cardboard and strapped down.

The cost was about $70 - $80 and they arrived with no problems.

i sent some from Sydney to the NT via greyhound freight, they put them in the hold of the coach and its was about $200 but this was many years ago.
