The end of Australian car manufacturing is in sight and I've been thinking about the evolution of Australian car design, styling and aesthetics.
With no more body shapes to emerge from either Ford or Holden, we have the opportunity to look over the entire catalogue from both manufacturers. What were the five best-looking Australian cars ever? My picks: 1. 1972 Holden HQ GTS350 Coupe 2. 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe 3. 1994 Ford Falcon ED XR8 Sprint 4. 1971 Holden LC Torana GTR XU-1 5. 1971 Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase III It was hard to decide but these are the ones I'll go with. What are your favourites? Any stories to go along with your top-five favourites would go nicely too. |

IMO, in standard form and no particular order (pinnacle in brackets) with regards uniquely Australian shapes;
'71-'72 Chrysler VH Valiant Charger (R/T) '70-'74 Bolwell Mk VIII Nagari '71-'74 Holden HQ (Monaro sedan and coupe) '72-'73 Ford XA (GT/GS) '97-'00 Holden VT (SS) No desire to own a VT BUT is a supurb shape. |

XA, XB, XC Hardtop.
XC Fairmont GXL. BA GT-P, of course. R/T E49 Charger. A9X hatchback, but it must have a drop tank and 10 inch Hotwires to qualify.

AU Series 1, 2 and 3 Falcon (not including series one Forte and Futura)
XA/ XB/ XC Hardtop EF/ EL (Not including GLi and Futura) FGX VX (2001) Monaro Have always had an appreciation for the AU's, definitely the pinnacle of Australian design for me. And the reborn Monaro, I would still happily own one. |

There is so much good stuff where do you start and where do you finish?
I'd be happy with these as an appetiser. |
