My guess is the majority of manufacturers will be guilty of cheating the system in some way.

Yes it was many years ago but demonstrates that VW is not alone at trying to circumvent emissions requirements.

also demonstrates that some companies will do almost anything to make money .

that is about the size of it , and while it may have been a surprise vw would be one of those companies to be in that category , some others it is no surprise at all .

You were not the only one to do that. I removed the PCV hose between the engine and the air cleaner on my first car.
