Interesting design of cruiser bonnet, that big cavern running down the centre could be ideal pozi for spot lighting , stopping the bonnet sitter from sliding off , or one could fabricate a hinged door with seals and use it as a lunch warmer .

Everest is not going too well I reckon. Ford have introduced cheaper driveway pricing, and just yesterday I got an email from Ford Australia giving an extra $1000 off as someone who had signed up for info.

The Brains Trust that is Ford marketing priced it too high to begin with and scared everyone off.

It's also been said a while ago that there's only so much variation you can put on the three box (sedans) or two box (everything from hatchbacks to wagons, SUV's, four wheel drives like the Landcruiser/Patrol) body design before "running out of ideas" and with aerodynamics everything starts to look alike from a distance.
The example given was in nature...the shark and the dolphin. Two very different kinds of animals...one a primitive fish, one an air breathing mammal like us...but evolution has meant that because they both had to adapt to the same environment, they ended up looking very similar despite being so different.

Cars, SUV's, and 4x4's all have to do the same job for their particular environments, so they naturally all start to "look the same" after a few decades.

An example from back in the eighties was the proliferation of "people movers" as popular family vehicles...Mitsubishi Express, Mazda, Toyota Tarago, etc, most makers had one. They were the one-box common people mover design, and from a distance you were flat out telling them apart...there's only so much variation you can put on a rectangular box on wheels. Then came the Toyota Tarago that was futuristic looking and with a lower nose and nobody cared if underneath it was dynamically a bit of a dud and no better than the other people movers, it looked so different and so modern that people bought it in droves.

Until someone does the same today with a new model of the two box or three box design, they're just going to keep looking similar.

Great post, I really liked the convergent evolution example.

We are seeing 2 box hatchbacks breed with SUVs and producing the X6 and XV! The only other break in trend I can think of would be large 3 box sedans move to mimic coupes, eg CLS, XJ, 4 series Gran Coupe, etc

Since Ford owned Aston Martin back in the earlier half of the 2000s, Ford and nearly every other manufacturer have done an Aston Martin styled grill.
As for copying each other every car back to 1900 can be picked for its year across most of the manufactures because they all look similar. Houses are the same, fashion is the same, music is the same and just about everything else.
