Angry Dearborn claims the Ford Aus archives

You would think they would leave them in Ford Australia's hands, its not like we would sell them to the Chinese Govt.

In the end, there is 5/8 of eff all that can be done to keep the material here. The intellectual property is owned by Ford HQ in the US. If they want to appropriate the material, that's their call.

Does not look good for any long term local Ford engineering prospects, how long until the entire show moves O/S then..............more smoke and mirrors BS by the sound of it.

I don't see the problem? It's staying with the company, and it's not being destroyed, just stored in a propper preservation environment.

Ford are still pouring a hell of a lot of money into our research and product development areas.
Ford Australia is one of the best in terms of product development. It's only natural for the big Ford HQ to want an advantage.

I'm not worried at all.

Can people stop with this notion that Ford was Australian at all. Everything we did over here had to be approved by HQ. They own Ford Aus....it's their property, not ours!!!

They have a right to claim any material(intellectual property rights I would have thought.) Ford Motor Company are the ones who gave the "go-ahead" to set up operations in Australia all those years ago,so why shouldn't they have a right to material which is rightfully theirs?Cheers

As an Australian tax payer who has helped US Ford stump up there investment in our local car manufacturing all these years I would also like to make a claim to this so called "intellectual property"..........................those black books used by the engineers would be full of our unique historical information on change levels and design revisions that many local Ford enthusiasts would love to see shared before its spirited away overseas and never seen again. FFS it's a big part of our local car manufacturing history.................If the buggers absolutely, positively have to have this stuff send them copies, not the original guf.

Cheers Mick

The archives in the US are high quality and will retain the condition of the documents for as long as Ford need them. The same cannot be said about the archives here. What is somewhat ironic is that I dare say, no one in the US will ever be interested in accessing Ford Aus based stuff once there. What I have been told is that any Australian wishing to gain access, will have very little chance at all. A real shame.

All that we will be left will be the electronic records of vehicle builds.

G'day LN and all.....Maybe if they take a bit of good old intellectual property from OZ to Septic Tank Land it'd be a good thing..they might actually learn something..or MAYBE NOT.. At this rate 100 years from now, a probably yet to be invented profession called something like "Automotive Achive Archeology" will still be teaching us stuff. I think there would be a wealth of information in the black engineering books that has possibly not seen the light of day yet.

This being an online forum doesn't negate the need to correctly structure sentences, use correct grammar and employ appropriate punctuation.

I honestly don't care how anyone writes, it is not my business to tell someone otherwise. Having said that, I am curious as to why you would have spaces between commas, full stops and question marks? Is it a general lack of care/attention to detail, or is that just how you think correct English is written?

Just a bit of advice; there's no need to get defensive when someone points out that it's difficult to read what you've written because you haven't employed correct sentence structures. I personally wouldn't have said anything, but at the same time I completely agree with what was said.

It's worth noting that whilst an internet forum is intended on being an informal medium, there's no reason why correct English shouldn't be adopted if you wish to be taken more seriously. I was one of the people that actually skipped your post because of how you wrote it.

I'm sure that like the gentleman whom which you responded to in kind by suggesting he ought not read "your crap" to avoid being frustrated, I too would be best served to follow the same advice. I actually did do that, but I just wanted you to know that correct usage of grammar/spelling generally gives more credence to what you are saying, all other things being equal.
