Nothing article really and Simcoe has stated that the business case must stack up.
So they will be watching how many mustangs sell here. I think Mustang is Australia's top selling sports car by quite some distance with between 500-600 a month, but will it be able to keep those numbers through 2017. The business case would need to be Global I don't thinks Australia's numbers will be enough Ford produced the sixed Gen Mustang as part of its One Ford business plan to sell Globally

RWD V8 sports car ??? A Camaro and Corvette will be overpriced (in Aust) or never happen.
A Commodore SS (and its derivatives) is a V8 sports sedan. A Monaro (and Mustang) is a V8 sports coupe. A Jaguar F type is a V8 sports car. Bingo !!! solved it. Roll in the Holden F type. !!!! |

Corvette would be north of 100k, how many people buying a 40k SS would buy one?
And by the time it arrives all the Commodore buyers will have moved on to something else. |

Commodore buyers aren't Corvette buyers. Half the market will be taken up by those buying the tens of C63 and M4's that I see everyday. The other half will be car enthusiasts. Plenty out there.

I think the analysis for the car maker will be all about positioning and profit
Camaro has to share the market with cars such as the mustang - price point doesn't give much room to move, where as the Corvette shares it with much more expensive cars like the Porsche turbo, (Nissan GTR being the closest competitor) so there is more room to move on RRP (and add profit to the price), the real issue in my mind as others have pointed out, is numbers to support after sales requirements - spare parts, servicing, repairs etc, which I think will fly. They export corvette to Canada and other RoW destinations I'd like to see how much one could be bought for and imported in under the new personal import rules What are my chances of finding a RHD corvette under 500kms/12 months old in a few years time??? |

If Holden had of based the styling of the VF on the Camaro rather than the Malibu then they wouldn't be in this mess.

If they do bring the Corvette here that would be absolutely amazing. I don't see why any real car enthusiast would be against such a move. I don't understand brand loyalists at all.

I wonder if the rumoured mid engine corvette will be made in both left and right hand drive

Holden Commodore buyers always had a few extra dollars in their pocket. Even in the 2nd hand market, they were 10-15% more than a falcon.
All of HSV (250) Final GTS-R Corvette engined weapons are spoken for, at around $160k. I reckon plenty of Aussies would dip into their Super Payout and spend $140-170k. Especially if it's a Mid engine Corvette. Last edited by sr71; 12-01-2017 at 11:00 PM. |

I hope it's the Camaro and I hope it's priced to undercut the Mustang. Competition is good.
If it's the Corvette, will GM allow a Holden badge to be slapped on it?

I would say there is about as much chance of GM allowing the Holden badge on the Corvette as Ford allowing the Falcon badge on the Mustang, "Holden Corvette" just doesn't have the right ring to it me thinks..... Addendum: Yes I am aware one is a brand name and the other is a model, but still...... |

G'day guys.. ..Which one would you park in the garage at your place if you had to choose ...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqeeyisKErE ..
be honest....Someone pointed out to me the other day that the Mustang doesn't actually have the famous Blue Oval badge externally anywhere..Has it ever ? or is this just in recent times... I'm not juiced up on Stangs so I'll leave it to those more clued up on the mighty Mustang history.. Personally a Mustang GT would be for me..although Corvettes are awesome On THAT very subject and this topic Watch this clip by an Aussie journalist on what may or may not happen to respond to the Mustang etc.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tkWuJSrvhw Cheers Rod.. |

I don't think a two door corvette will substitute for a 4 door HSV commodore for most of the HSV customers or Holden SS fans. At a stretch some night plonk for a Camaro, but as others have noted it would need to be a global program to build a business case and a suitable price point. I smell a typical Holden media attention grab that will not eventuate.

But ive seen pictures on the ugly 1980s mustangs with them, (you know rolling in my 5.0) just on that can anyone answer when ford first used the oval badge? 1980's?? I don't believe the Vettes ever had the chevy badge either, so fat chance of getting a Holden on it. Realistically is it time to the Holden badge to retire?

The Corvette has always had it's own twin flag logo & badging, which pays homage to it's racing cred, and to Louis Chevrolet's French ancestry.
However, despite having it's own unique badging, the bowtie is incorporated into the Corvette badge, as seen in the following examples from various decades: More from here (where I got the pic links from): http://www.core77.com/posts/24297/a-...s-part-1-24297 http://www.core77.com/posts/24298/A-...e-Logos-Part-2 |

The Chevvy badges too change as shown.. That's a topic and daresay a hobby (car badge collecting) in itself.. I reckon the worst Mustang of all time was the severely downsized 1976 model and a local chap had one..Shameful it was..All he did was spend money on it. I traveled in it one time . It had a lousy conversion , it rattled and squeaked all over....Ugh..Ken's example of this ugly stick was white with a vinyl roof and a Ghia I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzhtHx0p-dM The infamous Pinto was in this era too ..And people reckon the AU Falcon was ugly.. Go figure that after looking at these sort of pony cars.. The Cobra https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzHIGNdcVYs and the a year or two later 'our' Cobra..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnoYCXmvYNY . Listen to the commentary as it is shown at a U.S. car show a few decades on..NOT UGLY... Somehow it looks like the 'bar of soap' Camaro as described in the video will be more likely in OZ.. Interesting point about the Holden name..Never thought about that before.. At least Ford is Ford is Ford wherever you go but with GM , there's Opel , Vauxhall , Daewoo etc..and Holden for now..Once Holden actually finishes manufacturing it may just as well be Chevrolet for all intents and purposes.. Good point guys... Cheers Rod.. Last edited by roddy1960; 13-01-2017 at 03:11 PM. |

Can we get back on topic?
Oh hang on we don't need to because there will not be a rwd Holden v8 car in showrooms in 3 years. It's a complete fabrication, and if it isn't it's because they've only just done their maths which doesn't add up |

Hmmm..
Corvette is a 2 Seater sports car , Mustang is a 2 plus 2 GT Tourer. They probably bought 2 plus 2's or maybe 5 seaters they didn't utilise ? Or maybe just tough V8's ? Last edited by Fordman1; 13-01-2017 at 06:22 PM. |
