For those of us in Victoria, if you didn't go to SNL on 28th January, then you missed the last one.
Vic Police and Vic Roads have shut down the weekly event. Very disappointing as it was truly the only place motoring enthusiasts could go, park their pride and joy, then walk around admiring other works of art every Saturday. Some people will head to PenLink now, but it's further to drive for most people. Only time will tell. Sad times indeed.

I took a mate from Canberra there on the 21/01/17
I remember making the comment to him, that the event will get shut down shortly Cars banked up on the entrance with cars 10 deep on the freeway was a safety issue for all those concerned Cars also parked on the exit lane from the servo right next to the emergency lane Far from ideal I love these events as much as the next person, but surely people can see how much of a risk that presents |

Masters would only be a temporary option, but still requires seeking permission, and lacks food/toilets.

Once people started going just to "look" it went down naturally. The line got crossed between car meet and car show. A new event should be created anything not on club rego shouldn't be allowed into the carpark. Not that they would be able to enforce it at somewhere like a BP but it would greatly reduce the spectator aspect and would stop Golf R owners rocking up and trying to jam themself in between a tubbed Cortina and big block Camaro so they can get in a photo.

It doesn't seem like a big deal to me. The police have publicly stated they were happy for the event to continue but it simply outgrew the venue. Find another venue and it will be able to start up again.

There needs to be a dedicated site for this to occur.

Actually a good business opportunity. Wonder if a master's store site could be leased or bought and the interior/carpark dedicated to this. Another hurdle would be making the entire site private property and exempt from the road rules, and keep the police out.

It actually is as simple as finding another venue and it will start back up. The only issue is the venue, the police weren't cancelling the event because they hate cars, they were cancelling it for public safety. Maybe it's hard to find a venue to host such a large number of cars but that's life for you - problem solving is important. If it was such a big deal to so many people then someone will put in the effort find a venue. |

Nothings "wrong" with spectators but it would probably halve the number of attendees and will allow the event to go on in a more reasonable space. There's plenty of shows throughout the year where spectators can go to and have a look at most of these cars and there's plenty of other car meets that go in for specific groups.

Probably would, but given that one of the key elements that people are praising about the event is how family friendly it is, i don't blame people for chucking the kids in the daily and going to check out some nice cars whilst getting a bite to eat and catching up with a few friends.
You don't need to own a show car to enjoy this type of event. Theres also plenty of events throughout the year with restrictions of what cars are allowed to bring.

There is. 5 mins away off ferntreegully road. It's always empty now since it closed. In fact it was almost empty when it was trading...lol. And exactly opposite over the road is Bunnings. 2 huge car parks. Event organisers in conjusnction with the boys in blue could work something out no doubt......

A good venue that is less than 5 minutes from BP Eastlink is Carribean Gardens, it has toilets, onsite food and thousands of carparks.

What they charge to open up on a Saturday night? Would they then want to charge admission?

Hey mate, no need to be sorry. The place is a good suggestion but I think it's an entirely different scenario.
I was assume the owners of Carribean Gardens would want money up front to host such a thing, but that's me assuming the people running The servo at SNL don't

Is there some sort of park/reserve with a big car park or access to drive into it?

SNL to me was always about enthusiasts bringing their classics, gabbing a coffee and checking out other peoples rides. It went from that to youngsters with their single peg VS commos and the like who typically hang at their own events (typically kebab shop car parks)
taking up valuable classic car spaces. As for cars on the on/off ramp, don't coppers love nothing better then to fine us Victorian motorists? Why didn't the police fine those who had parked illegally/dangerously? Once fines are handed out to oh say 200 people I highly doubt anyone would park there again. Or is that to logical?? An absolutely brilliant event has gone down the gurgler which is an absolute shame! RIP SNL it was a good run while it lasted

I have attempted to go a couple of times within the last couple of months and have found cars to backed up into the freeway lane (100km/h zone) so I gave it a miss. Peninsula Link also has a good vibe to it and I don't think it's gotten too busy just yet.
