Default Car Sales June 2017

http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/a...=homePageNews1

New car sales bounce back to an all-time high
Australians went on a new car buying spree last month.
According to official sales figures released today, more new cars were purchased in June than in any single month before with an all-time high of 134,171 sales re-igniting the automotive economy and putting the industry back on track for a third consecutive annual record.
The June total was 5602 sales better than last June's previous record monthly figure, and inched the year-to-date overall number into positive territory for the first time this year, with 599,552 new cars sold so far in the first six months equating to a 0.2 percent rise for the total market in 2017.
With most leading brands offering significant discounts in line with the end of financial year, it was a month that simply amplified recent industry trends with the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger utes setting the pace as the most popular new vehicles and SUVs continuing to increase their role as the preferred family transport over regular passenger cars.
In a sign of the times, traditional family favourites such as the locally-built Holden Commodore and Toyota Camry - both of which are months away from being replaced by fully-imported models - were outside of the top 10 best-selling models, which consisted only of utes, SUVs and small cars.
In a tight race for the final podium position, the Toyota Corolla just edged out the Hyundai Tucson as Australia's favourite conventional passenger car, leaving small car rivals, the Mazda3 and Hyundai i30, separated by just 19 units in a battle for fifth and sixth places.
Unsurprisingly, Toyota was the best-selling brand for June with 24,546 sales, almost double that of next-best Mazda and Hyundai which both sold over 12,000 vehicles for the first time in a single month. Holden bounced back from a poor start to the year with 9273 sales in June but still sits 12.3 percent lower than last year to the same date while arch rival Ford remains static on the strength of the Ranger and Mustang. Of the mainstream brands, Kia is the biggest mover so far in 2017 with total sales up 35 percent over the same period last year.
At the other end of the scale, Australians continue to buy more luxury cars than ever before with Mercedes-Benz selling almost 5000 new cars in June, with nearly one in five of its cars being from the high-performance AMG brand. Similarly, brands such as Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari and Aston Martin are all sitting on record sales results so far in 2017.

It would have only been 5050 if I hadn't bought that new Ranger.

Doing my best for the Ford brand.

What's everyone else bought?

Surely with that many new Rangers and Hiluxes being sold the resale value of the 2nd hand ones will start to drop.

Well yes but 2nd hand crew cab ute prices, particularly Hilux and Ranger, have been unrealistically high for some time now. The last two years have seen a lot of new ones sold, so expect a glut of 2nd hand ones over the next 12-24 months as a lot of them come off lease or are traded after 3 years for a new one.

It's all that piece of junk deserves.

Resale values are rock solid on these things. If they are in such demand new it also means they are in high demand used as well it seems.

Colorado would have sold over 2000 units
Captiva probably sold a bit because its cheap
Commodore still may have sold close to 2000 plus add to that the ute for the tradies since its EOFY.

All of the above really.

Choices were only between the CX3 or the Mazda 3. Although the CX3 is based on the Mazda 2 chassis, it has the bigger 2.0l, disc brake rear end and more interior space (as opposed to the 1.5l and drum rear in the 2).

Decided on the CX3 because in the end she just preferred the way it felt to drive and the fact it was a little smaller.

Didn't really consider any other options, she liked the Mazdas and that was that. She drives a new corolla hatch for work and says she much prefers the Mazda. Since I wasn't going to be the main driver, and because it's "hers" I wasn't going to argue.

I was skeptical about the iStop (engine stop start system) and didn't like it at first but amazingly have come to love it. Despite what most people think, it does not rely on the starter motor to restart the engine. It ignites a fuel mix in a cylinder to fire it back up and it's very quick to fire back up.

Starter motor assists with a restart in i-stop system . Amount of assistance depends on engine oil temperature - if engine is cold starter motor does more work.
