Sound deadening.

Putting this here, hopefully more traffic + responses.

Planning is underway using 'carbuilders' Oz company excellent service to sound deaden the new ute.
With utes they have a big boxy chassis and I wonder how much noise reverberate through this and if sound deadening would help...even a little.

My thought is spray the complete inside with fisholine rust inhibitor type product and then leave to dry a couple of days then fill with expanding foam using all the holes to get foam in. When finished clean up overfil and plug holes with rubber grommets.

Your thoughts please. What have I overlooked.

PG2 He is the one that started me on this journey. My BF was amazingly quiet, now Ive upgraded I start the process all over again. but wanting more. Acoustic windscreen also high on the agenda.

When I had my FG ute I applied sound deadner sheets to my cabin back wall panel under the window. this stopped about 80% of road noise coming into my cabin, very effective and easy job for DIY

I agree with that. Now I don't work with cars but as an electrician I've had to sort it out a number of times. Expanding foam doesn't stop water ingress, it slows it by absorbing it untill it gets saturated and in my case that makes things short out so I guess its the same with making metal rust.

thanks that answers that question. Got any recommendations of something that will work in cutting noise travel in the chassis down.

Unfortunately I don't, but I've spent a lot of time trying to rectify expanding foam issues. Once you sort out deadening the cab maybe see how that goes then work from there. I don't find my ute any louder then my sedan when it comes to road noise. Well, the ute is louder but the back is always loaded so bumps are always going to upset the load in the back.

Didn't the EL range have foam in there pillars or something to reduce noise and increase strength. I presume that this is causing major rust issues for these cars by now???

As for cutting down road noise, have you thought about the type of tyres you have on the vehicle.
From my experience tyres can make a big difference. Some tyres I find are hash and noisy, while another brand may be quiet and relaxing to ride on.

Don't take the tyre salesman's word on this, different people experience tyre noise differently, try riding in different vehicles with different tyres to see if it is a solution for you.

Let me clarify where Iam at................
old BF ute had sound deadening throughout the cabin,
floor, Lifted rubber lining first.
back wall
doors both outer & inner door skin and door cards.
footwells
covering the whole roof (inside)
B pillars

There was nowhere else to put it.

I was running Michalein Premacy tyres best for quietness I have found.

painted and sprayed on sound deadener under the cabin, on the engine side of fire wall, inside both wheel arches both the metal and plastic covers.

When you cover ALL your bases and still trying to find other ways hence the tube chassies.
