Default Difference between S/C 8 and Turbo Barra

People who own either one or the other will likely fanboy about that particular car and say it's better because "insert reason here" but the truth is they're both animals. Just the 8 is like a complete mental case when fully unleashed.

This is the difference when both cars making the same power. This tells you all you need to know. This is why the cars drive so different. Look at the graph and tell me which one is the mental case when unleashed?

Arronm, maybe I’m missing something here....

But you are only showing one car, the S/C 8 with the before and after results of being tuned.

Should you not also being showing a Turbo Barra dyno graph making the same power level as the S/C 8, as a comparison as to where in the RPM range the power and torque comes in on both?

I think the green line is the turbo six.

I would be pretty annoyed If i got my car tuned and LOST 1KW.

Amazing theres only 1KW difference in top end.

but looking at the Graph I would have thought the Barra would be the mental case when the boost comes on?

the red line looks smoother, though it develops its power earlier which probbaly explains the wheelspin at 100

I think it's a good example as to why XR6T/F6 (turbo cars in general) are generally faster for the same power level. There's a significant torque advantage to the T6 in the mid-range.

Wow, i didn't realise my personal opinion in another thread from actually owning both cars in stock form would require you to actually start your own thread. That's very impressive. Particularly when i said they're both great.

whatever floats your boat hey.

What turbo is on that XR6T?
Looks like its been tuned conservatively with boost coming on quite gently. Presume this is for traction/driveability?

Just comparing Apple's with apples.

And giving evidence to why they drive so different

Why the 8 lacks in the seat of the pants wow factor is it's linear power and torque curve.

The graph clearly shows this.

Just some education for folks that don't really understand these engines and the differences.

All people vary what they feel through their pants despite what a graph/curve shows.
Someone quotes otherwise and for many others visa or versa, its the seat of the pants feeling - if exhibit A feels a SC Miami goes off more this does not compute to your engineering brain feed, typical engineers pov.
The why is it so.
Others differ my friend, that does not compute for you for its on paper but that doesn't mean it translates as so to all.
A troll is a troll - you have a lot of time lol.....

that's correct, and i'm comparing a stock FG turbo vs a stock FG X Sprint 8

The turbo is subtle, then unleashes like a crazy person, the 8 is forceful but more mellow until it hits around 80, then it squirms and goes balistic. These are the facts as i have experienced them.

Anyway no point in the whole arguing on the internet thing, doesn't change my experience anyway so is largely irrelevant.

Personally I prefer the curve of the 8, predictable power anywhere anytime. Some people like the animal appeal but to me its like having a pitbull when all you need is a Kelpie that'll go all day and won't bite you if you're off guard.

I agree its a pointless argument. Single malt or Cognac? - I like both! Jealous of those lucky enough to own both.

The crazy boost on a modded barra turbo can be quite addictive, and not much else can replicate it. However, the sound of the S/C 8 and the flexibility in throttle modulation is something you wont get in a high power barra.

Then I go around corners in my Focus RS and nothing compares to that.....

Then drive a supercharged Mustang and none of the above have the presence of that car, it really feels like something special.....

Because they tried it and didn't have the drivability of the supercharger.

They did make it, they just threw it in the bin.

Now if you asked Ford's stellar accountants, they would say that a certain, sizeable demographic of Ford customers will happily pay a premium for a V8, particularly when it wears a GT badge. Their logic was sound.

Yes... But the SC8 has a bigger engine capacity, so the Barra needs more boost. You are not comparing two engines of the same capacity here.

Yes... But the stock FG Turbo is 270 kW versus stock FG X Sprint 8 at 345 kW, so not a fair comparison. With the extra 75 Kw, the Sprint would go ballistic around 80.

V8 is only 25% bigger than the barra, but needs the 6 needs twice the boost. I'm probable wrong in my calculations but based on the dyno sheet above the displacement of the v8 would be about 8lt and the barra about 9lt. Be gentle with your criticism re this.....
Either way picking same hp is not a equal comparison. What if we used torque as the basis, the sc8 would be way ahead in hp / kw.
I've had both and not easy / fair to compare based on power / torque, but both awesome.

Wrong. For same power 6 makes over 100nm more torque than 8.

Yes I made it very clear that's precisely what I was doing, as.thats what I own, two stock cars. Why would I compare cars I don't own? Also how is it a "fair" comparison to compare two cars with the same power, when one weighs more?

Why am I even asking? Some people just want to argue on here which is boring. The car has been extinct for going on two years and people still find the need to continue the inane ****ing contest. I choose to enjoy them, and sing their merits and faults accordingly.

As you were everyone.

Ah, I see what you are saying. I don't know.
But will check it out.

Most cars are power and the subsequent torque

Trucks make big torque but not massive horsepower.
