Nice little update.
Ford should be applauded how well they are doing keeping this ute fresh and competitive. I can easily see this overtaking Hilux eventually. https://www.carsales.com.au/editoria...-outed-112099/ |

to be fair though, it's a pretty close run thing and they change places for 1st/2nd pretty often, Hopefully the freshening will put Ranger more firmly on top.

If only they can get the 2WD moving. This is the part Toyota lovers forget when praising HiLux sales.

Shame they didn't put the 10 speed auto in or spice up any of the driveline. Pretty much the same as the current ranger with a new front bar.

so not a great leap of faith to see that the base 2.0 Panther will also have the 10-speed auto. The only question I have is whether the 3.2 I-5 will get the 10-speed auto for this last refresh but then I realised that the 3.2 has to run for another three years before we likely see a V6 engine. So I'm hoping it get a nice tune and the 10-speed auto to stay in front of the V6 diesel competition. |

Good to see them busy at Ford, feels like the old days when they'd update Falcon regularly to stay competitive.

The pictures on the Wildtrak look interesting , the gear selector looks like the Raptor 10 speed one and if you look close on the side it says on the badge bi turbo

A 2WD Low Rider with the 2.7 EcoBoost would make things interesting.

i am no expert in this field , but i think Ford will be using the new 2.0L Euro 6 engine for 2018 , as the 3.2L is only Euro 5. I think , don't quote me on that.

It'll depend if they can get the 3.2 to euro 6. Also if it's worth it.

Yep agreed , and seeing as they have spent money on getting the 2.0L Euro 6 and 10 speed into basically a Ranger already it would make sense to just move forward with that. Maybe not tuned as much. I think i read somewhere that there is already a 2.0L 147kw out there.

They will definately keep the 3.2. Sales would fall off a cliff if it went to a 2.0. VW has big problems moving 2 litre Amaroks, so much so that 75% of their sales are V6. Also big backlash from Isuzu dealers at the proposal of downsizing the DMax engine so they have kept the 3.0 litre for the Australian market.
Buyers in Australia like capacity. Our driving is different to other Asian countries - more long distance and more heavy tow loads here and no engine capacity based taxes here too. |

Very curious to see how Ford plays this engine option as there are a lot of 3.2 buyers (85%) mess this up and it could be brutal for Ranger sales. |

Yep I expect the 3.2 to stay until powerstroke V6 is available. Good thing Australia is such a big and profitable market - our preferences will really guide development.
I would honestly expect XLT and Wildtrak sales to halve overnight if they went to a 2.0 litre, fleets won’t care (unless it affects resale). But Ford wants those high profit customers. |

V6 won't be seen on this product cycle, NG Ranger is around three years away.

I was told by a friend who works in a dealership ( yeah so here say only ) that they would give 2 options the 3.2 or the 2.0. I definitely don’t think so because Ford Aus dont give customers options like USA. Wait and see on that. They definitely need the 3.2 i agree.

that's also around 20 nms less torque than the 3.2 but much better economy. Aussie buyers are capacity centric and a 2.0 replacing 3.2 may be a hard sell especially if Toyota Hilux immediately gains an advantage.... |

3.2 I-5 and 2.0 Panther diesels for our market would be the logical least disruptive choice especially with our Ranger sales being heavily weighted to the 3.2. (XLT Dual cab 4x4 = $60K) or is Ford about to do a GM and tell its +$50K buyers what they will and won't like....... Last edited by jpd80; 15-04-2018 at 01:50 PM. |

That sounds entirely plausible, a better more powerful 2.0 engine has been needed for years.
The 3.2 I-5 probably stays for our market, a 10-speed auto to get it over the line against the competition's V6s is a must. We'll also see the 2.0 Panther in Endura later this year... |

I am hoping they give customers more options in these Rangers like the USA eg: Led headlights & taillights, blind spot monitoring and B & O audio.
Not holding my breath though. |
