Saw this ad and jaw dropped. Is this for real?

There appears to be a great difference between the international (or UK) pricing and the pricing here in Oz. If true, that outperforms every asset class out there, including Aussie muscle over the time period. Reminds me of a thread recently where I mentioned the common garden variety stuff may have more potential than the high $$ collector editions, didn't expect to see an example with such an appreciation so soon.

OK forum - given international markets price cars differently to here, where can you see a car being very undervalued in Australia, and taking off overseas?

I was actually thinking about these cars today after getting one on Forza Horizon 4.
I looked them up on carsales, they range from a $5000 to $140,000.

I mean you can ask 140k, but it isn't worth that much until someone pays you that much.

I recently saw a dry, outback, nice original paint, Cortina GT sold to a UK buyer for about 70k aus. Far more than it was worth here.
Alot of Escorts went back to the UK in the late nighties, worth $500 here and a couple of thousand over there. What we thought were rusty junkers were like gold to them.

I don’t know about the claim of a 900% rise.
Immaculate examples of these have commanded good money over the past ten or so years, and in the last two years, I’ve seen a couple $1 reserves in NZ which have gone for between $40-55k. Pretty good for a limited market, although there may have been UK interest.
$1 reserve reflects the true value, not some dreamer slapping what he thinks it’s worth, or what it owes him only for it to sit on the market for 12 months before he decides to hold onto it.

Later model Range Rover Classics, and the last of the Discovery 1 with soft dash and ES trim may rise in value. There is also a growing interest in good condition original (with working air suspension) P38 Range Rovers especially from the UK.

Thanks Smoo, that's interesting information.

I quite like the last of Discovery I, I remember them on runout at $39,990 inn 1998 or 1999 and they feature the respectable 300Tdi which did quite well for economy at the time (and now). Also like the first BMW Range Rover, L322, that was an incredible design for its day.

I remember there was a small craze for taking Leyland P76 4.4L alloy V8s and putting them in the Range Rovers in place of the 3.5.

On the gumtree link, you can see sellers other items, and recent sales.

Supposedly, the seller is listing that he sold an old a little 2-door 1970s Alfa last month for $557.000, sold an 1990s MB SL AMG last month for $476.400, and a BMW M1 last month for $193.300
That's just not possible, unless it was a lotto millionaire that is adding to his car collection, and didn't know better.
