See Vicpol are testing potential new cars.Mercedes AWD All Terrain wagon.3 litre turbo diesel at 250Kw and 700Nm,supposed to be as fast as the Commodore V8 wagon but use 1/3 of the fuel.

They've got a huge variety of unmarked cars these days, seen them getting around in their usual BMW 5 series and X5, various VWs, Rangers, Hilux and Colorado.

Too bad they don't hide the extra antennas and you can spot the LED flashers behind the windscreen and the front grille from a mile away

why would you need to worry about them "spotting" them. I see them all the time, they just ignore me

One of my very good mates and neighbour is in the Highway Patrol. He was a Ford mechanic for 22 years and spent time helping out a rally team before joining the force

They have a C63 patrolling from Miles to Taroom in QLD
It's turquoise with all the Highway Patrol reflective stickers.

Probably because I use my phone while driving, my cars are all illegally modified and I speed everywhere - gotta be like a fly on ****, have a thousand eyes everywhere

Meh, average over 30,000km a year on our roads, as of next year had my license for 10 years, never been fined and only been involved in 2 not at fault accidents.

This time last year there were only approximately 1150 people who died on our roads nationally, 1150/25,000,000 - thats 0.004% of our population that dies on our roads on a yearly basis.

There's more important **** to worry about than me using my phone while driving or going faster than the already ridiculously low speed limits - your money devalues at an exponentially higher rate on a yearly basis than the percentage of our population dying on our roads.

But I don't expect much out of a nation of convicts, you all shown you need someone to tell you how to live your lives

Which means it *might* come close to breaking even during the lifetime of the car when you consider the increased purchase and maintenance cost

I saw the new BMW 5-series HWP car - it has a self-closing (electric) boot! Why on earth would police need that? Complete waste of taxpayer money.

MY HWP mate tells me that they are mostly using BMW's and Benz's

I have a seen a couple of unmarked X3 BMWs. Still a large number of VF Commodores in the fleet in Melbourne.

Apart from the theoretical retail price, I think these will be a great replacement for the aussie sedans, more than enough power for the job but excellent economy and the practice benefits of a wagon and SUV combined.

That said, whilst VIC POL won't be paying retail and despite these being a factory fit-out, I do question whether this good value for money.

Does anyone know what happens to these once they retired from use. With the the E400d not being available to the public, one would assume Mercedes wouldn't want these potentially effecting the values of the E220d versions. Are these returned overseas then?

ATM the last of the vic pol cars would have been changed over every what 60,000 to 80,000 ks?
I'd not be surprised if these non general public merc's say in the fleet past those kind of k's and are pretty much run to death before they are replaced given their cost and rarity in Australia.

they are well and truly past the trial stage - Police in Victoria have already said they will be dealing with BMW mostly, there was a media release about it ages ago

I have always liked Merc's ... But living in Georgia now, I think that the best looking Police Car is the Dodge Charger that they have.



In fact I like the looks of most Dodges. A wonderful balance of Retro and Future. I am saving for a Durango (No credit here yet). Ford only have the explorer in that market, and my $ only reach to a FWD. Things might change when the Next Explorer is RWD.


As SUVs the police here seem to have mainly a GM thing, and some Explorers.

Still some running around.


It was a bit of a PR mishap when Ford decided to drop the nameplate.
Then should have run a Special version of the Taurus called a Crown Vic. Especially as now the Explorer RWD/4WD again.



BTW the Taurus is actually a nice looking car - beginning from when the merged it with the 500 about 13 years ago. Forget the ugly Bucket of worms that they tried in Australia.
