Default Longest in-use Falcon part

Frm xk to fgx is about 55 years of constant development and change

It got me wondering. Is there any part no matter how trivial that remained unchanged and you could interchange from any falcon to any other.

I mean obviously a half inch nut and bolt is what it is, but i mean a component that fits any falcon?

I'll nominate Engine Oil Filter AFL-1 for starters. From 1960 to about 2000, I know they changed for BA, not sure about AU.

That's 40 years approx.

Cheers.

Not including screws and fasteners this is an an interesting question.

From my previous experience I understood the steel one piece tail shaft remained unchanged for many years. I also think the rear tailgates on the utes went from XA to XF

This has been asked before, wasn't it a switch or something like that from the footwell area? Brake light switch or similar?

Petrol? :P

Pretty sure the AFL-1 fits through the BA series as well. There’s also the festoon interior light globes which appeared in the XR from memory. I think the BW78 diff gear sets carried through from XR to the last of the utes, too - or were at least backwards compatible. The basic nuts for steel wheels remained at 1/2-20 for years.

The Windsor V8 block started in the US Falcons in 63, arrived in the Aussie ones in 67' and despite a hiatus from around 83'-92', returned to finally be killed off in 2002.

The size reduced over the years - main change is probably the torque reduction gearing used during the E series onwards.

Should do - the Ryco Z9 oil filters fit Falcon 6's from XK to BA - might be the possible winner.

Given the ambiguity of the thread title I was going to pull an old Ford broken auto retracting radio aerial and an old broken Ford timing chain out of the shed and compare their length. Well they would both be "long" and very "used". But there is probably a longer old used part I have not thought off.

Hmmm got me thinking this...

XA-XH ute tailgate
XR-FGX - inner sill to inner sill the same dimension
XE-AU - lower firewall panel
XR-XF - strut towers + shock mounts on front
XE-AU rear chassis legs

I remember looking at a parts list (bill of material in Fordspeak) for an XH or XG Falcon in the late 1990s and seeing an XK part number. I think it was the interior dome light.

Motorcraft AFL1. Used from the start, right through till it was replaced in BF. Same oil filter for the Windsors as well, so it was used on 6's and V8's for many, many years.

The rear stop/tail globe was the same from XK to FG.

I believe that FGX changed to the wedge type globe.
