Hey guys just bought a new falcon and it came with a engine number that doesn’t match the VicRoads engine number? Do I need to take it to VicRoads or just notify them over the phone? Tia

You're most likely going to have to take the car in to a VicRoads inspection station so they can confirm the engine number of the block thats in the car.
Prepare for stupidity, make sure its as easy to see as you can make it.

I'm assuming you mean new to you and not brand new.
Did you buy it from a car yard? If so, go straight back there and get them to sort it out. If you bought it privately then phone them and ask if they had the engine changed and when they did it or had it done. Get the background information before you even consider going to VicRoads. The idea is to avoid the hassle with them if possible. |

I have been through this bullshit with ACT.
When it was transferred from NSW they made a mistake with the engine number and despite showing them the photos, and the dealer records, and the logbook, they said it needed to go over the pits to update it which is ridiculous. In the end I said **** it, the correct number was with insurance and the manufacturer anyway ![]() |

Just drive it as it is, then when it next needs to be inspected, do the engine number change then.
I doubt if 15% tops of people in Australia that buy a second hand car would even check or know that a engine had been changed until they have to get it inspected, even if you get pulled over and they find that the engine number does not match its no big deal. |
