Exclamation Engine Missing and other weird shite!

My Fairmont has slowly been developing a miss and is now at the stage where it will miss badly under load i put some injector cleaner in and it helped a bit but it still misses pretty bad going up hills with the occasional shudder at idle as well. It has 135,000 kays on it.

My parents have a series 2 VCT XR6 and they have also started to develop a miss though are not at my stage yet. They hav 128,000 kays.

Am I right in thinking this is the leads? What about the coil or fuel filter?

Also what the hell oil do you put in the VCT? Mine says 5-30 on the filler cap and the manual says 10-30??

I'd be sticking with 5w/30 at 128,000km.
My AU Futura has just clicked over 255,000km and I've just done my first change to 10w/30 after religiously sticking to 5w/30. And it goes fine, nice and quiet and smooth,but I swear the car is just a tad sluggish with the fractionally thicker vis oil,than the 5w/30.
So I might just go back to 5w/30 on my next change-

At least by trying 10w/30 you can make a comparison for yourself.

My mums forte had the same problem. Leads and plugs fixed it.

Think its the leads i popped the hood in the dark gave it a good rev and watched a fireworks display under the hood

If you can get that far underneath it (safely of course) give the cat a bit of a bump or 2 and see if you can hear loose bits rattling around inside. Exhaust should be cold of course. Umm might not work for you if you have a std manifold, I have pacies and the cat is well back behind the engine where the rubber mounts allow some sideways movement. If your cat is flanged at either end it's easy enough to unbolt it and do a visual check.

Well the last person who owned it didn't because there are two types of leads on the car.

I know faulty leads cause missing under load but at idle as well? The lead looks pretty cool the whole thing lights up when the engine is running.

One more thing: where the coil pack is it looks like it is made to hold a distributor as well. Are there any AU's with distributors?

Mate I haven't owned it since new and the log book is no help. I've only had her for 10,000 kays I take advantage of resale.

Changed the leads and she's running sweet again and doesn't skip a beat.

Idle still a bit rough (no missing though) should prob change fuel filter or something.
