Why? What has that got to do with anything? But since you asked, pull out the stopwatch and give it a go (to 100), or go to the drags and find out the 1/4 mile.

From memory, 0-100 was around 7.5 for an auto (7.2 for a manual), and 15.3 for the 1/4 (15.1 manual). This is what the review on "goauto" says:

Just how quick is the XR8?

Well, don't expect to leave Subaru Impreza WRXs choking on your dust, but the XR8 has enough mumbo to put a broad smile on your face when tackling your favourite twisty roads.

Even in automatic form, the 1620kg sedan is capable of covering the standing 400m in the mid-15-second bracket, while the sprint to 100km/h takes under eight seconds.

JC, just reading that review in the link you posted. I didn't think the V8s come with fail safe cooling? Is this true?

Cheers,

Ian

Fail safe cooling, that turned out to be a joke, how many of them poor sixes got cooked because people just keep driving, after all thats what they were told, I see that they don't offer anything like that anymore....good idea, poorly executed.

Failsafe cooling is now on most Ford vehicles, including Falcon 6 & 8cyl except LPG. It works well, never seen a cooked motor since it has been introduced. Wreckers seem to have plenty of engines on hand.

Yep, both the BA 6s and V8s have failsafe cooling, as does my Exploder 4.6 V8. The strategy to shut down spark on alternate cylinders helps to pump cool air through the motor and cool it down (in theory).

It actually works, and if people bothered to read their manuals from cover to cover, they would know it's only a temporary measure aimed at getting you to a safe section to pull off the road, without cooking the motor from the initial water loss.
