Default Volume knob on radio not working

Hi,

The wifes AU fairlane has always had the volume knob on the radio broken/not working. The controls on the wheel work, but i prefer to wind the dial, rather than click a button 50 times when a good song comes on

Was in it today, and it's ANNOYING! :

The sales guy said it was "disconnected" but i hint a large amount of BS in that... i think he was trying to say "broken". No visible damage though.

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

so it clicks in to turn on and off? I think they have a keyway/flat that locks onto the spline to adjust the knob left and right, pop it off and check the inside of the knob is not shagged

Metho on a cotton tip is good for cleaning dirty electrical contacts.
