Default HSV: I just stole one!

Well I didn't really but this article published today in the SMH says that Holdens Commodores are Australia's most nicked car! See link: Commodores Walk

Coming in second is the AU :yeees: not so good news....

For those who can't be bothered reading the article here's the stats:


The most commonly stolen and not recovered cars in Australia in 2004:

* Holden Commodore 1998 - 2002 (410 missing).

* Ford Falcon 1998 - 2002 (150 missing).

* Toyota LandCruiser 1998 - 2002 (140 missing).

* Toyota Hilux 1998 - 2002 (80 missing).

* Mitsubishi Lancer - 1998 - 2002 (70 missing).

Most commonly stolen cars in NSW in 2004:

* Holden Commodore, 1984 - 1994 models (3460 stolen).

* Ford Falcon, 1983-1990 models (1930 stolen).

* Ford Laser, 1982 - 1990 models (1240 stolen).

* Toyota Corolla, 1981 - 1995 models (840 stolen).

* Hyundai Excel X3, 1995 - 1998 models (740 stolen).

i know the VL series are easy to get into, my mates car could be opened and started with about 3 other VL owners keys!!

Anyone know the weakpoint thats causing the Au's to be easily nicked ? Obviously a PM would be more appropriate for an answer than posting it directly into the thread as well.

hilux being so high on that list makes me laugh...

they dont take ours, even with the take me sign on the screen, the keys in the ignition, and 10 bucks for petrol taped to the steeringwheel!

must be something to do with the 580,000 kms... :

EA's are easily taken. You can open them with a screwdriver. :(

Its eating at me hey. I know that the series 1 AU's would be easier due to the fact that if the ignition is picked it can be started... no dramas.

But on later series Smartlock evolved into smartsheild with transponder keys. Without the key talking to the car their is no way the car can be started (As far as I know).

I used to own a VQ Statesman (VN model Statesman) and it was stolen 3 times and they screwed up the 4th time. When I saw how easy it was to steal, compounded with the fact that my premium was now $6500, I ****ed it off. What annoyed me more was the fact that I had my XWGT in my garage which now had to go as well as my NCB was shot and I had to keep my next car in a locked garage. Couldn't afford to store it, and pay insurance on 2 cars with no NCB.

Screwdriver the door, screwdriver behind the barrel of the lock to break and turn the bit that remained was all it takes to steal a VQ. All of a 10 second job.

they can still tow it away, then just break the windows to get in strip it and dump it some where..
