I need some help! My girlfriend wants to buy an Impreza, and I know nothing about them? Looking at the RX or RS, basically a REX looking thing without the turbo.
She wants something no older than 4 years, and despite my constant haggling, wont get the turbo cause the insurance is too bloody expensive for under 25! Does anyone know of a Subaru forum or something? Does anyone have one? cheers!

I've read comments by jounos saying that while the regular Imprezas aren't bad cars, they are carried by the image of the WRX. They're heavier, slower and use more juice as a result of the AWD compared to other class competitors.

Thanks guys.
What do you think is the best similar sized car? Something that looks sporty, goes ok, you know, the typical chics car? I'll probably have to drive it sometimes too, so I dont want to get anything poxy!!! Whatever it is, looking at spending $20-$25k, for a good second hand one. Puts the Mazda 6 out of contention. She originally started wanting a Rav 4 2 door cruizer, but is open to suggestions? I heard they are dear as to buy spares for??

i think the difference between the rx and rs is the engine, one has a 2.5 and the other 2.0 .

20 - 25K?
brand new mazda3? might be able to find a s/h sp23 or something for that much. my dad had a 02 RS. I thought it was a great car, not too much poke but handles like nothing else. the 2.5 RS is a fair bit better than the 2.0 RX

Yeah, has to be the 2.5. Its getting an exhaust, whatever it is!
Is 20k still close enough in the price bracket? I think they're about 30 new?

Yeah the only real difference between the RX and RS is engine (RX = 2.0, RS = 2.5). Nice car... gotta hate the round headlights on that model tho! What about a Honda? Should get a nice accord or somethin for that price... otherwise yeah the Mazda SP23 would be awesome

Liberty is better than a Impreza. Weights ~20kg more, has more powerful engines, cost about the same, better equipment and more modern. Looks better.
The only decent ones are the 2.5's.. They go okay.. Other wise imagine a car that weighs just below mid 90's fal or como level with a peaky 2.0L four. Its a modern pintara. Laden with a auto and AWD its pretty slow. |

My brothers missus has the 04 scooby RS, and its awesome. Goes well and handles like its on rails, (just a little understeer). The interior would probably be as good as the mazda sp23 offering. But they're a little thirsty.
I'd pick the scooby for driving performance, but the mazda for pretty much everything else...

We looked at the scooby RS2.5 when we bought my wifes car, it went well but we could not get it on the road for $30,000 (new). They handle well and have pretty good power. I thought the inside needs more toys and the was rather plain, only has single CD, aircon but no climate control and 2 airbags.
We then looked at the Mazda 3 SP23, that is what we bought. It has the Mazda 6 motor and feels like it has a lot more punch than the scooby. Comes with 17" alloys with decent rubber and has great handling and brakes. Straight through a roundabout at 60km/h is not an issue for this go cart. Interior has 6 disc CD with a decent sound (steering wheel controls), climate control, six airbags and is very well finished. I am so impressed by the build quality and the service from mazda I am starting to think that my next car will be a mazda rx8, ford could learn a lot from mazda. We ended up getting it on the road for $30,000 but I reckon you would be able to pick one up in your price range second hand. $25,000 would put you in the range of the Maxx or Maxx sport (new) but they have the 2L motor and not as many creature comforts. I would go the mazda, whoops the scooby RS2.5 and has more features too.
