"this is the certify that on this day, the ** of ***** 2006,
one (1) motor vehicle (add a description, ie make, model, colour, rego plate if still on, chassis and vin no's,)
was sold by Mustang Nicko (real name obviously) licence number and address, to other person licence number and address,
for the sum of $XXX.

Name and Signature of Seller

Name and Signature or Buyer

Name and Signature of Witness (all dated as well)"

This as been sufficient in SA for me in the past, but since you mentioned RWC, I'm guessing you're not here, therefore might be worthwhile adding something along the lines of you have informed the buyer of the need for RWC as being his responsibility and he has agreed.

What state you in? someone else may have dealt with those authorities and may know of something else you need.

Is only a rough guide, but I hope it helps.

The buyer will be unable to transfer the car into his name until they have a RWC anyway, just make sure you have it dated/signed so if the buyer happens to get a speed camera fine before changing ownership you have proof the car was no longer in your possesion

Basically, up here when I've bought cars anyway...

They write it out like an invoice.

Like they put the date, buyer's name, address of buyer, what they bought, cost, sign and that has been sufficient enough for me anyway to prove I bought the car.

They got a rego pass so its "in their name"

Thats even better for you then, although obviously to transfer it completely to their name it will have to have a RWC

I'd also include drivers license numbers as mentioned already above, its more proof that they are who they say they are.

Sounds good.... and not that I'm and un-trusting person, but maybe have a quick look at their licence to make sure details are correct.

I always add the 'as is' condition part when selling things unregistered.

In victoria you DO NOT need a r.w.c. to change the ownership of a car

Nick
if you sell him your car tell him to go to vic-roads and PAY the transfer fee
and from THAT date AND time the car is in HIS name
That means that if there is any rego left on the car then he will have it as well so he can still drive the car untill it runs out ....
Then after 28 days Vic-roads will send HIM a letter to ask for a R.W.C. and he will have another 28 days to take it to them .

AS for a receipt it just has to be short and sweet

SELLER I nick ..... have sold COLOUR 19?? EF with the REGO number
to HIS NAME on the DAYS DATE / TIME for the sum of $$$$$

seller ......NICK.......... d/l number 123456789 YOUR SIG<><><><
byer ......HIS NAME d/l number 123456789 HIS SIG<><><><

That is all you need now days A lot of the laws have changed in the last 6 mths and a heap have just started from the first of this year ...

Actually if the car is registered you do require a RWC in Vic but if it is unregistered as in this case you do not see here Vicroads

Quote from Vicroads "To transfer a registered vehicle, a current Victorian Certificate of Roadworthiness (RWC) is generally required however some exemptions are available (see below)."
