Default mini chopper bikes.

hey, i couldnt find a topic to put this in so i suppose this comes under general auto.
im wondering what the road laws are regarding these things? because im only sixteen i need something to ride to work in because i cant get my P's :(, and want one of these. The reason is because i dont wanna ride around on a poofty little scooter and thought one of these would be alot better.
thanks for any help because i know i can afford one and just want to know if i can use one on a road.

mini and pocket bikes are illegal on the roads in qld....plus you may get a fair bit of ribbing about a mini chopper too! i reckon they are better than a scooter but people look for ИИИИ to pick on.

i now a young fella in town here that lost his liscence for 6 months for riding a chopper around. they cannot be registered, do not conform to australian standards, cannot be insured. the only way they are allowed on a public road is if they are being pushed or pedal powered. i should know as i had the cops pull me up while riding mine down my street.

I read somewhere yesterday that they've just banned these things from being brought into the country...

In SA they came out a while ago and confirmed they were not suitable for road use. They were getting very very very popular for a while, lol i remember seeing a full gang of guys on mini choppers. The police came out and said they were not legal... all of a sudden there was dozens and dozens of the things in the trading post....

Why not a bicycle? Free to run, just as dangerous, just as slow/fast, keeps you active, 100% legal everywhere. No need for rego either... insurance well thats your call.

I've been nearly killed more times on a bicycle in 3 months than on a motorbike in 2 years. Who says motorbikes are dangerous?

2 christmas eves ago, after beers at work on xmas eve, a mate got on one of those silly mini bikes, went down the road on the back wheel and a highway patrol car happened to come around the corner.
first time we have ever seen a cop car on the road there.
he got don for DUI, riding unlicensed, unisured, unregistered, unroadworthy, no helmet etc etc, absolutely slammed, all for a silly xmas eve prank.
unluckiest bloke ever

my mate was importing those stupid bikes at the height of the craze. he would import a container load of around 40 bikes to a container. customs would pick the containers with mini bikes in them and supposedly look for for contraband. customs cut up over half of his bikes and no compensation at all. it was clear the government just didnt want them in austrakia.

I think he meant a learner's permit, you could get your motorcycle L's and buy a postie beater.

Nothing wrong with a bike though, or even a bus.

Mate i know it's hard but you can get your L soon (16 years and 6 months I think ) save the money for a car and just ride the push bike around a little longer as a moped would sux and just a waste of money

k, well heres the story, in WA you can your L's when your sixteen then when your competent can go straight to P's even the next day if you want, but cant ride over 50cc 'till you turn 17 which then go's upto 250cc.
the new job i got is the furthest building out of town and i will be able to ride there no problems but its so far! it will take like a good half hour to get there lol. and because I live in a rural town ( like the size of a suburb though ) there are no busses to catch :(.

So all i am asking is there any alternative to a 'poofy' scooter i can have while on my '50cc' engine limit permit? and dont say wait to your 17 and get a 250 because as soon as that happens im jumping in a ИИИИing car!!
