Not stopping for the police

Had a great experience on the weekend. I was driving along the main street of a country town, weaving all over the road, nailing the car to about 100kmh and then braking really hard, and to cap it off, going hard around the corners with a bit of tail out action. All the while trying to catch a mate in a modified Cortina.

While I am at this, I have a police car behind me with flashing lights, and I wasnt going to stop.

It was my first around-the-houses racing event and the police car was the back up safety car tailing the field around the track :voldar02: Oh, and it was only a V6, so he didnt have a chance at keeping up with me :-)

An excellent experience. WA is the only state that still has this format of motor sport (apparantly) and it is a huge buzz racing on streets with very large concrete barriers all around. I ended up doing very well and also setting an excellent time, especially for a car that gets driven to and from events. A couple of guys got carried away and nudged the concrete, sadly a very nice Mini Cooper knocked his wing about, but nothing that cant be fixed.

Also did a hillclimb on Saturday and the rain was a great equaliser. One car managed to fall off, a truly insane little old Fiat with a giant modified rotary hanging off the back, but I discovered how slippery the track was and was not going to risk doing the same.

Honestly, if anyone is interested, get yourself some sort of car and join a club and get invloved in racing, hillclimbs, track days, autokhanas etc. It is a great way to get to know your car and have a ton of fun. Regular scruntineering also means that your car, and everyone elses, is as safe as it can be.

sounds great! Like prolougue states in the Targa tassie. I'd like to do this sort of track!

I will be racing at the autocross track at Avalon this Sunday, Its great fun!! Sideways at 100 odd! And thats really crossed up sideways!! Came 3rd out of 45 last time, will try for 1st! Have to beat a turbo 4wd subaru though...

QLD still has, as GreenMachine said, Leyburn Sprints as well as the Pittsworth Sprints. Both fantastic events, and great fun to take part in.

I wish i had come up to Northam now. Would have been good.

No excuse is a good excuse but I really thought it would be a bit wet and misserable for it. Got quite a shock when i woke up and it was sunny. Ah well. Post up the next one and ill organise the boys and girls for the day.

Glad you had a good time. Sound a bit like what we do on the gravel out bush. Sideways round corners and speeds. Fun fun.

Hi John. In order to do the round the houses events, the car has to be oldish (mine is 26 years old and there are some club members who think it is too new) and any modifications have to be in keeping with the car. Sorry I cant explain that one better, but you couldnt enter an Escort with a Nissan motor in it.

There were two XW/Y Falcons doing the hillclimb, one 1960's Mustang in the regularity, a few Minis, one EH, a lot of Mk1 Escorts, and four Mk1 Cortinas. There were other cars, but these made up the bulk. The club also caters for open wheelers, but I would sugest checking with them before going and buying something and not being allowed to race. I know there are Toranas, Anglias and a few others around. The new cars (like mine) enter the historic events by invitation, but I dont think anyone gets knocked back.

BTW, the club is the Vintage Sports Car Club. A lot of members are also in the WASCC and enter the hillclimbs and regularity events run by them. Some of the WASCC cars are full on race cars though, but they are in different classes. Our club is not quite as competitive. We also run Albany later this year, as well as Collie (if it ever gets going again) and we have a day at Wanneroo as well.

In the end, I came second in one event and third in another. I had a point to prove to a friend so threw regularity out the window and just passed him on the main straight at 140 in third gear :-) It was worth it.
