depends how much you replace and where you get it done, with mostly new parts, about 1000 - 2500, with nearly all new parts can go up to 10,000

standard, would be new rings, bearings, square the block, square the head and new gaskets, if thats what is being done then 1150 is a good price

and maybe a hone or clean-up of the bores..

IIRC the ACL kit is around $1100 + machining + labour

why would you rebuild the motor, at 187,000? The engine should still be very tight

http://www.hmgem.com.au/

aparently these guys a good. i was going to go through them to get a rebuilt eb motor but another car came along so i didnt do it. you can go through repco etc (theres a list for nsw distributors). SM mag used these guys to do a story on rebuilding motors and it focused on an EB 4.0.

never ended up getting a price though.

hmgem engines are ok if you never want to pull them apart again, they are bit hit and miss in quality for mass produced rebuilds, mainly stripped threads that are fine till you undo them.

www.deleted link <-- great read of info.

my brother had an ED xr6 manual with 200,000kms, and that engine ran like it was brand new, very tight, it all depends on how well it has been maintainted, there are people on these forums with Ford I6 well over 300,000kms and still going stong.

what was exactly the problems with the AU, was it internal problems?

I got mine fully rebuilt - either new or re-ground everything - fitted for 2800, done by gem (I think) There was a article in Street Machine on how they build their 4L's they dont leave anything in the condition that it was when It came in. Everything get re-fitted to manufacturer's specs.

My 4lt I6 I don't plan to rebuild anytime in the near future. It has 230,000k's on it. The only issue it has is blowing blue smoke on start up occasionally. Which is valvestem seals. I'll get a C/O cylinder head in another 50,000-70,000k's if I don't buy another car before then.
