surly in this day and age we can develope some alcohol type of fuel so we are not held to ransom to these countries that have all the oil.... sure johny red is approx $50 a litre but if mass produced it would be cheaper. image that, australia has alot of land, we could fill up half of it with fuel farms. we would then have the next sheiks driving around in gold plated fpv's....

Don't think you're immune because you have a company car - take a guess who the first cost cutting measures will affect.
Even if the barrel does increase to such a level its not sustainable.. global economic growth would simply stop. |

Thats a doomsday scenario, at that price the US government would fall, the world would go into recession, inflation would be rampant, many government in weaker states would collapse and generally everybody would be ИИИИed off, it would have the social effects of the great depression but with the economic conditions of the 1970s with stagflation.
Simply i dont see it happening, the US would nationalise their oil before they let it get to those levels even with a republican government.

What would you suggest they/we do about Iran's medically certifiable President? The ultimate 'very small man'. Should we let them continue whilst broadcasting their intention to wipe Isreal off the map, the US and Britain off the face of the earth? Or is it just some cute cheeky humour? |

If the third world tries to hold USA & China to ransom over this then they will be occupied and their oil "aquired".
End of story. Anyone who believes anything else is in for a shock........ |

It is going to be a very, very tricky five years. We have the Taiwan issue on the boil and China insisting 'you are ours' and passing l.a.w two years ago to allow for war to take it back. We have Indonesia ever upset with us, such bastards we are. We have China and Japan hissy fitting over some Islands and potential oil reserves in the Sea of Japan, with China warning it'll use its navy to press home the point. We tolerate a paranoid Venezuelan president, a country with large oil output and a key US supplier, who doesn't like big nasty America. We have Nigerian unrest, in part over locals feeling they are not being seeing enough of the profits/rewards for their oil, and in corporate terms may be correct, but corruption is a goer domestically. We do see a growing US presence in Africa, for many reasons, not least to combat the Islamic militias running through the North and indeed right down to Suid Afrika where they raise funds. We have Mr Hurrrooowww in the North to deal with. Russie it is said could go eitherway, but my view is they are more allied than not and have their own regional issues. It is right they secure their energy and it is right they try and broker an agreement with the madman of Iran, 'look, let us enrich the uranium, and all will be well for you, you will not then be attacked and will be able to continue your jumping up and down shouting how much you hate America and Israel", Iran "No, you suck, keep building". NOW, in the last year we have seen construction materials, worldwide increase in price ranging 8% - 17% owing the 'China factor', China is booming at a rate 10% per year, hence the resource demand for not just oil, but materials. Just something we have to deal with, and will. AND India. India is hindu and will be an ally and has its own problems with insane muslim extremists. It is right we continue to play cricket with them (the Indians not the fanatics). It is developing some excellent naval and airpower, it's fleet, matches the US Pacific Fleet in tonnage and now rapidly approaches a technological comparity, which even impresses the US Joint Chiefs. It's stealth warships are certainly interesting. India has 300 years of British tradition behind them, we shall all continue to play cricket just as the yanks and Indians continue their military excersises together. China's naval build-up over the last two years has surprised most folk, now being considered a 'real threat' in combat terms against the the US Pacific Fleet. It has till 2008 or so if it decides to use it against Taiwan and the US, should it defend Taiwan on the basis of human rights or other misguided values. Indonesia launched another submarine a few weeks ago, they now outnumber our own. Broadcast on Metro TV. It won't say so, but is 'cautious' of India. Malaysia's northern region muslim fanatics, as always a minority, but rarely caught, - continue to create bullИИИИ in Thailand's south killing those deadly nasty Buddhist. The same scenario plays out in the Southern Philippines, a few US forces are about, assisting as they do, but cannot stop the attacks on civilian ferries, the slaughter of those evil catholics and so on. If China and Tawian get into bed together and make up, a large burden will be lifted. We shall see. Last edited by Keepleft; 22-04-2006 at 11:03 PM. |

IF you think for even a moment America has *really tried* and failed militarily, then you would be very mistaken. On the contrary, it has been very very gentle with Iraq. |
