Its sounds like a okay deal. Its new stuff for ford to do here not old stuff cause they are short of cash.

New commerical vechical sounds good. I think Ford oz would kick at that. look at the Ute and the territory and the RTV.

Main conditions were that Ford was to activly seek export potentials and that they would give local component manufacturers a fair go when looking for contracting suppliers.

hmm problem with that is that some local suppliers still make crap, and sook that ford and hodlen look elsewhere. Why pay for expensive crap when you can get it cheap?

Saw a Proton at Westfields the other day. Thought it was an Alfa from a distance, even the emblem. Nice-ish car made in Malaysia with a very reasonable price tag. My point is, how long are we going to flog this dead horse? It is no longer viable to develop and produce cars here. And it seems we don't need the Falcons and 4x4 type guzzlers much anymore going by the sales figures. Howard throwing $millions at Ford when Oz car producers have a use-by date is silly.

Well yes, I suppose I think highly of you too...... Did I suggest everyone must drive a 4 cyl hatch? Are we the only country capable of providing Australian inhabitants with safe family cars and performance cars? What is the cause of the problems the Australian car manufacturing industry?

You don't have kids do you ??

The auto industry is one of the largest employers in this country, not just Ford Holden Mitsu and Toyota, but all their suppliers, the down line people and their requirements.

This includes raw products processing, computerisation, without Aussie imput, and processes we will surely become the Banana republic as touted by some not so long forgoten pollie.

The benifiets to this country, yes that is you and me, of the auto industry are imense, The horse is not dead, feed it, educate it, refine it and hope that our kids can still ride it in the years to come.

Buy your kids a job Buy Australian made.

and u wonder y im going stop paying tax, It seams like its a free for all when they dish it out, People are queing up to have simple operations all around the country but the PM thinks they better help out a USA profit company.
i think they better all get a 30% pay rise whilst they are at it and give the CEO of ford a few hundred thousand as he saved the company from laying off a few underpaid monkey.

Yes I do have kids as a matter of fact, why so? All the bit contributors to the motor manufacturers are facing the same problem– globalisation. The heat of the competition is searing. I see daily the downturn of business conected with the auto manufacturing trade here in Adelaide. The signs are there. They must be read and understood. Look at the Mitsubishi fiasco, GM and so on. Australia has the opportunity to convert, not simply to stave off the inevitable. Our future is in Resources, Innovations and Ideas. Globalisation has ended forever any guarantee or protection of investment anywhere. By global measures Australian labour and set-up does not compete with the offerings particularly in Asia.

for ford to be getting the money, that makes a pretty clear statement that ford need it more..unless of course little johnny can't distinguish between red and blue, which is plausible as he can't distinguish between never ever, dead in the water and lets have a GST..

And that is the reason to buy products designed and manufactured without any Australian contrubution ?

By your own admission our economy has all the elements required to be successfull all be it with a reasonable standard of living (including our high wages), Or if I understand you correctly you would rather lower our standards just to compete.

And because Aisan labour is cheaper that is the reason to rob our country of the needed throughput (sales of Aussie Product) to remain viable.

We don't need protection we need Australian consumers to consume Australian product produced and designed by Australians and even better if the profits remain in Australia,

The reinvestment in training and development will not happen if the products are not designed and produced here.

And since you have Kids are you concerned about what work they will do, what conditions they will work under and if they will have the oportunities of this new globalised workstation.

If we don't make it here our kids will not have jobs to do,
No work No Oportuity, What is the future without it?

As I said before Buy your kids a Job Buy Australian Made. Even if it has imported components lets at least assemble it, or design it.

On an additional note why do we export Iorn ore and Coal when we could export Steel???????

couldnt agree more!!!.how many times do you really look at the label? shame australia shame!!

the bit about steel...we do export some of the highest quality grade steel in the world from right here in wollongong!!

reading the story i still dont understand why ford are getting the coin when its holden that has the most parts made over seas not ford or mitsi. but the sad fact of the matter is australian production costs more than asia and the quality is compared to asia. im sick od replaceing bubbled up consoles in ba falcons im ing tired of machineing front disks on ba falcons because there made of rubish . yet mazda focus fiesta or even box au1 dont need disks machined and hand brakes adjusted every service. lets not start with the tsb on the bf for the missalined spot welds left inner gaurd makeing the steering crack like it did in the ba but not fixable i love the ford falcon it keeps me in a job and a house. and i want to see other australians working for ford australia. but at the end of the day our standards of living that alows us to buy new falcons also makes it hard to make the car for the price with out a few cheap nasy parts thrown in
